spirithorse Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 I did a back-up on my computer for Windows 10 onto an external drive (Recovery Drive). I just followed the directions from the computer instructions to make the back up. After the back-up was completed, a prompt came up to label the back up file BUT, the pop up prompt said the date would already be in the file name and THEN it had (Windows 7) in parenthesis. This computer was purchased with Windows 10 and has never had Windows 7 installed. Why would that (Windows 7) show up like that? Another problem I am having is trying to find a safe and reliable site to download a driver called CH341SER.EXE which is for a laser engraver. Can anyone send me a link for a safe download in English or copy that driver and send it to me by PM, please? It is supposed to be a free download so there would be no copyright infringement or anything. I'm just too leery about most of the sites I have seen for the download which is why I wanted to make a complete Recovery Drive before I download anything but, none of this is working out well for me yet. Thank you for reading and considering this for me.. God Bless! Spirithorse RabidAlien 1 Quote
WayneMahler Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 Let's see if I can explain this in clear words and make sense. I did a back up on my computer, to an external hard drive. It just named the file for me. I also noticed one with windows 7 mentioned. From what I understand that is so you can go back to Windows 7 if you don't like Windows 10. I did a second back up and named the file myself. It gives you the prompt to name it yourself. And that worked out fine. I hope this makes sense. Things get confusing really quickly with computers . spirithorse 1 Quote
don watson Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 (edited) I use T2 Laser as my goto programme for laser use. One of the first things needed is to download and install CH341SER.exe. I go to the Help menu and there is a place to to download it from there. I can't find this file on my computer (I can't even find T2 Laser) but if you down load a trial of T2 it will let you install this file to your computer, I don't know if this will help ?? take care Don W EDIT I use Linux for my working machines but I can only use my WIN 10 based desktop unit to run T2. I know it needs to run in Windows so I suspect that CH341SER.exe is a windows only type as well ?? Maybe someone else can help. OOPS RabidAlien has sorted you. RabidAlien Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 (edited) What is the make/model of your laser engraver? Sometimes its easier to find using the model number than it is to use the driver name. Editing to add: I did find that driver name at the following link, its about 2/3 of the way down the page under the "USB Driver For Cutting Plotter" section. It downloads as a .7z file type, which uses 7Zip to open (similar to WinZip for .zip files, its the freeware version, similar to how GIMP is the freeware version of Photoshop). Winzip, or the compression utility built in to Windows, should be able to open the file, but if it needs, just Google "7zip" and download the freeware. http://www.hflaser.com/download.html Edited July 16, 2020 by RabidAlien amazingkevin 1 Quote

This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action. Please install an app or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Apps Setting page. Thanks, Wayne, I've kept that back-up which was named automatically and will see if I have enough room on my external hard-drive to make another copy and name it myself. God Bless! Spirithorse Quote

The installation manual says I can get the software at www.vigotec.cn but, that has done me no good so far and the program download is supposed to be VigoEngraverL7. I do have the VigoEngraverL7 program saved to my computer but, without the driver, don't know if that program will even work yet! LOL All of these are Chinese made engravers but, this one has a much larger printable area than most and I thought I got it from a good supplier here in the U.S. but, he doesn't seem to read or write English very well! Thanks again for your previous help. I just thought I'd answer your question about the make/model in case you feel like investigating further. God Bless! Spirithorse RabidAlien 1 Quote

Spirithorse Try running the program installer. A lot of times now, an application that supports a piece of hardware will include the drivers for that hardware in the installer. Quote
