kenreichq
I was watching some Carter Johnson videos about making jigsaw puzzles and he said he preferred using 1/4” poplar plywood for his puzzles. Anyone know where you can buy poplar plywood? Also, is there a special type of poplar plywood to get that won’t have voids or is all of the poplar plywood solid and “void” of voids? HA! ben2008
Home Depot sells poplar plywood. I have had good luck with their plywood. I just ordered a piece of 4' x 4' maple , good one side 1/4" plywood and am very satisfied. Took about a week to get it delivered. it was free shipping also. NC Scroller
If you read any of Carter Johnson's articles carefully it is important to note he use 5 Ply 1/4" poplar core plywood. The make up of the core is the key. Not all poplar plywood you buy is 5 Ply poplar core so shop carefully. https://www.columbiaforestproducts.com/library/reference-guides/grading-guide/core-types/ Roberta Moreton

I use a lot of ¼" ply and always look for the 5ply as it's a beautiful wood to cut.
Lucky2
Carter used the poplar ply because of the lower price, but you can use 5 ply BB and not have an issue. The main difference in the two, is the price. What I've found to be a real good product for puzzle cutting, is the 5' by 5' sheets of underlay, it is often made of poplar, and there's no voids in it, plus it's quite a lot cheaper then most other plywood.
