Braided Box

First off,I did not make this box. It's one I've had around the house. It was pretty, but plain, so I decided to spruce it up a little. The braid design was one I saw on a piece of leather. It was so striking to me that I wanted to see if I could reproduce it in wood. It came out okay, but there are some things I'd do differently if I was to ever do it again. Sorry about the blurred photo of the open box.

Fred, that looks fantastic! Can you tell some cutting details? From here, it looks like there are 11 different pieces that are cut out and glued back in, or is it carved to make the effect ?
