OzarkSawdust
I just finished cutting one of Alex Fox's boxes in Walnut and Beech. I'm thinking a dip in Watco Natural. All solid pieces are Walnut. All fretwork pieces are Beech. Only the two "feet" are glued at this time. If I dip the pieces separate, they won't want to fit when dry as they are tight anyway. What about dipping outer box...inner box...top fretwork. When der put the inner into the outer, drop in the hinge pin, glue the top fretwork on? Any better ideas? I haven't finished anything quite like this before. The first one was grabbed by my wife and remains unfinished BB ply. OzarkSawdust
OK...I'll try it. I didn't think the spray can would get in all the little nooks and crannies. I tried it once on a small piece and got too much in one spot...too little in the edges. I try to spray from a foot away, and pass across it. Any other tips/tricks? I've never been a "spray can artist" LOL amazingkevin
NC Scroller
You spent all that time making it so take 15 minutes to brush on the Watco Oil. Just my two cents. OzarkSawdust
Bill WIlson
Any way to loosen up the fit a little? If the parts are so tight now, any finish is going to interfere. If all surfaces aren't sealed, then you introduce the potential for expansion/contraction with humidity changes. OzarkSawdust
redwine
I agree with Scott, use a brush and "paint" the oil on! You can control the amount and still be able to get into the more difficult areas and not have the finish collect in those areas and not dry probably. This way you can also apply the finish twice just to be sure you have it all done. Erv OzarkSawdust
amazingkevin
Whoa!!! Lots of tips an tricks here. My caveman Technics are a quick wipe with my finger or a Q- tip to gather up pools or puddles of coatings and then a quick spray again from further away. Just my 3 cents!!! I keep wanting to buy some wipe on poly but never have YET OzarkSawdust
