Joey
HI, With summer just around the corner I was wondering if any of you out there have air conditioning in your shop? The afternoon sun beats on mine and it gets to worm to work in it. All suggestions welcome. Thank you, Joe
mikesscrollsaw
My shop is an attached garage that shares the central air/heat from the house. Both are a must have
montgomery0
Joe, I stopped in on some hillbilly wood carvers once in Ark. end of August once. They were in a barn to big to cool, they each {3} had built simple little booths 5' by 6' with work benches. Each had a simple inexpensive ac unit in each booth where they spent most of their time carving. They would save any finishing or large sawing stuff that needed done in the barn area for the cool mornings...So a small booth to retaine cool air around your saw?? Just an idea. And a little faster than growing a shade tree....Mark
andy chew
just a fan in the past, but thanks too you here at ssv a/c is on the way
Clayton717
yes I have a small window unit in mine. It don't keep it cold, but makes it comfortable to work in the shop. Mainly takes out the humidity, which is a big help. I also have a fan helping circulate the air a bit. I usually only run it when I know I'm going to be working out there. You don't have a/c in south Florida? I grew up in WPB, can't imagine not at least having a window unit.
Oges
When I open the garage roller door and the side entrance door, it is conditioned by the air that blows through
Dan
Moved my saw into the basement for the heat two winters ago and now have th benefit of our central air. All the other tools are in the garage with no a/c.
wedo scroll
Its in the basement with no heat or air, just a fan and portable heater when needed which is not to open. Bill
wombatie
Front and side doors open in the summer + a fan, then in winter front door open and a tall 3 bar heater that I can pick up and move around the garage. I manage with both of those very well. Marg
shotgunpapa
I use a fan also can't afford the bill for A/C
campasano
No a/c just a big fan and with the side door and roll up door open I get air circulating through the garage which makes it bearable to work. If it gets too hot I wait until the early evening hours to go out to the garage as that is the time it starts to cool off. Mike

Joey
Hi, Thanks ever so much for all your answers. I am considering a wall mounted unit, as my shop is only 10X12. My real concern is how often the filter would need attention. Every day, once a week etc. Thanks again, Joey
Clayton717
my shop is also 10x12. with my window unit I try to check and clean the filter at least once a week. If I'm doing lots of sanding, like when working on intarsia I do it daily.
Lucky2
I have A/C in both shops, just got a unit given to me for the workshop that is separate from the house. It should be nice to have in the heat of the summer, seeing as how I'm not a heat person. Len
WolfmoonCT
My shop is in my garage which is under the left side of the house. A raised ranch style. During the summer it stays pretty cool actually. prob mid 60's. The entire back of the garage concrete is under ground level, so it keeps the concrete cool. During the winter though, it's way too cold to do any work.. prob in the mid to upper 40's on those real cold New England winter days. I am planning on actually taking the garage door out and framing in a set of french patio doors and a window someday. I dont' use my garage as anything but a wood shop anyway. But framing it in would really keep the damn spiders out too. I just can't seem to get rid of all the damn spiders during the summer. Mainly daddy long legs ones. But it's annoying to see cob webs and spider webs all over the upper corners and spider poop and dead insets on the one window sill in the garage. Xray
I don't even have AC in the house, much less the workshop. I'm not a big fan of AC, obviously.
DAdams
Hi yes i have a small shop and i have a small window AC unit built in the wall .And i sometimes use a 20 in. box fan when i don't run the AC unit.
Lucky2
I have a small AC in the window, but only use it when I'm going to be in the shop for awhile. I don't see any reason to keep the shop cool if nobodies using it. Len

Ken O
No heat or ac for me. In the summer I usually only work in the evenings. In the winter.... I only go out there if I have to. Hard to work when you look like you're going on a trip to the arctic.
