Padauk

Can I use padauk to make napkin holders?

I’m using Steve’s Goods halloweennapkin.pdf pattern and I’m worried the wood may be too irritating from the stories I’ve read about it. We won’t be eating it but the napkins will be in contact with the wood and then they would be in contact with lips and face.

You can used either Tung oil or spay Shellac and it will be fine to use.

Even if you didn’t seal it, it would be fine to use. The toxicity is from the dust created from cutting. It should be sealed though.

I have used it in cutting boards without any ill effects.

Half of the finished product. Steve Good design, Padauk, sealed with clear enamel (spray can) and about six # 5 Pegas MGT bladed and three #3 MGT blades.
