Pegas v Olson blades

I can get Olson blades at menards, and have been using them. Is Pegas blades better? My saw only takes pin end blades. Are there quality pin ends from other companies?

I have only purchased the Olson blades for a mate. I do know they are miles better than the other "Brands" available in Hardware shops. I got mine from the Wooden Teddy Bear along with an order of non pinned blades and other items.

Ask 10 scrollers and you will get 15 different answers.  A lot of that is driven by the type of wood they use and the type of projects they like to work on.  Personally I prefer Pegas for 80% of the work I do.  The other 20% I use various Flying Dutchman blades.  I have tries Olson and was not impressed.  I know others that will only use Olson.  My suggestion to you or any one else is try different brands, different sizes and different style teeth to see what works best for you.

Ive discussed this with a few friends over the years - Ive used about everything under the sun at one time or another .

I use to like the flying dutchman brand - but they dropped my favorite blade because it was not popular -

they told me another blade was better for the purpose I needed it for - He even told me i was wrong .

I basically told him , you have your opinions and i have mine - but for my needs the discontinued blade was better for me .

Ive talked to Olson blades - Even meet with a Rep for Pegas blades  , and the Hegner company .

Ive been threw this about 4 or 5 times - when something i like has been either changed or dropped , one saw likes this blade another likes another .

So its apples and oranges - i have a box with so many different brands , sizes etc -it would make your head spin .

Honestly one saw hates pegas another loves them -same with Olson blades -  I would tell you at this moment my favorite brand is Pegas -

tomorrow - who knows !  Ive learned that they can change a blade at a moments notice -so when i find a blade i like -i buy a couple of years worth -

I have had no luck with pegas.  They break very easy. I’ve tried them several times at Charles Dearings request.  They cut great when they cut.  Very sharp.  I can get more done, however, using Flying Dutchman or Olsen.  Now, I gave up on pegas and use Flying Dutchman odd numbers and Olsen even numbers spirals.  Really don’t need even numbers but that’s just how I scroll

Nobody has mentioned that you might be very smart to see if there is an upgrade to your saw to allow you to use pinless blades. Being stuck with only pin end blades you can't get any of the very tiny blades that will allow you to get in tight places. No matter what brand you end up with, if you can convert to pinless blades and then get sample packs from the 3 top suppliers, you'll be able to figure it out for yourself. The projects that you cut and the wood type that you use will dictate which blade tooth design is best also. But until you can switch to pinless blades, you are really limiting yourself in many ways. Best of luck in what you choose to do.

I have used olson blades for years and the last ones I  got  were not up to par. I have gotten 4 doz of FDblades and see ;how they work Ihave tried pagas blades in the past and went back to olsons.  O see jpw tjese Fd baades work out . whenn trying pegas blades I broke a lot of tlhem,

Im not disagreeing with you -i think they are  plated ,maybe titanium -my guess( not sure )

they have a brassy color to them -yes they break easier than most ( especially the fine ones )

but one of my saws loves them -they seem to stay sharper longer 

but the larger sizes like the #9 do not seem as sharp as the Olsen blades - confusing isnt it !

I mainly use Olson (about 75%) and have for over 35 years on my RBI and Excalibur. I try to use the PGT blades as often as i can, However, I have used Flying Dutchman and for certain applications they are fine also. I have never tried Pegas blades. I have no need to try them either or any other. I am quite satisfied with my choices.

PS  I am no expert on blades by any means. I just know what works for me after 35 years.

This is why I use all three of the brands mentioned.. I love the Pegas for the majority of my work.. However the FD and Olsen also in certain cases outshine the Pegas.. in my shop.. all the brands of blades are in stock.. I must have about 35 storage tubes of blades..

I agree with Kevin. I have except that I am down to primarily 2 brands. The Olson and the Pegas. I do use an occasional FD puzzle blade. 

As others have said try them All you will eventually find your comfort blades. 

Smitty definitely consider upgrading your saw to pinless blades.

I used to use Olsen blades, but started using flying dutchman and have stuck with them, I like the more aggressive cut of the FD blades, and now I stock pegas blades too. So for me it's flying dutchman and pegas.  which brand I use depends on what I'm cutting at the time.
