I cut this out of a 1/4 inch Elm panel purchased from Heritage Wood. It was cut using Flying Dutchman #3/0 spiral blades, Pégas #2/0 spiral blades, and #1 Fling Dutchman reverse tooth blades. The piece has 443 holes according to Charles and it to me approximately 25 hours to cut. Yep, that's why I glue directly to the wood. A wipe of white spirit and it floats off in one go. Stunning piece done with great skill, I love it. I expect you can make faster time with the spirals. Also, how big is the piece and have you any idea how many blades you went through? I expect that I could accomplish the job using #1 and #2/0 reverse tooth blades and my guess is that it would take me twice as long since I would constantly be turning the piece. The panel that I used is about 12 inches by 15 inches. Small spiral blades are extremely fragile and I break a lot of them. My guess is that I used between 20 and 25 blades on this. As a result, I just look on amazed at these beautiful pieces like this that you folks craft. I have an aunt who loves raccoons and no doubt would find this piece stunning as do I.
