Popular Post Frank Pellow
The pattern was designed by Charles Hand. I cut this out of a 1/4 inch Elm panel purchased from Heritage Wood. It was cut using Flying Dutchman #3/0 spiral blades, Pégas #2/0 spiral blades, and #1 Fling Dutchman reverse tooth blades. The piece has 443 holes according to Charles and it to me approximately 25 hours to cut. Here is a photo of the back of ‘Curious’ shown on a brown tile floor intended to simulated the dark brown backer board that I intend to place under this piece when framing it: Jim McDonald, meflick, jollyred and 9 others 10
Denny Knappen
Wow, you have been busy. That is a very fragile piece. Well done. amazingkevin
Frank Pellow
Thanks. Yes, it is very fragile, so fragile that it took me about half an hour to very carefully remove the glued on pattern (even though I glued it on top of shelf paper which, usually, comes off vey easily). amazingkevin

Amazing work. Curious, how may horrs per session did you work? I know I can not concentrate on small details like that for more than one or two hours at one time. amazingkevin

But, if I have two or three that I am currently working upon, I can switch and stay at my saw for up to four hours. amazingkevin and meflick

Yep, that's why I glue directly to the wood. A wipe of white spirit and it floats off in one go. Stunning piece done with great skill, I love it. Rockytime
Fantastic piece of work. I can't/don't use spiral blades so I'm wondering how long it would take with regular blades. I expect you can make faster time with the spirals. Also, how big is the piece and have you any idea how many blades you went through? Also, how big is the piece and have you any idea how many blades you went through? Thankyou. It would be quite difficult to cut this with what you call "regular" blades. I expect that I could accomplish the job using #1 and #2/0 reverse tooth blades and my guess is that it would take me twice as long since I would constantly be turning the piece. The panel that I used is about 12 inches by 15 inches. Small spiral blades are extremely fragile and I break a lot of them. My guess is that I used between 20 and 25 blades on this. But, I am happy that I did give it a go. I hope that you do try spiral blades and the you like them.
