Hi, Ray, @octoolguy

Do you have any photos of that ornament cut? I'm having trouble picturing that in my mind's eye.

Thanks and God Bless! Spirithorse

That's not an ornament. It's a part of the votive candle holder that I've made too many of. 6 so far. Everybody wants one. There are 8 side panels like that on each one. I also expanded the pattern to make a larger one for a centerpiece that has 20 of them. Each one, even with practice, still takes me an hour to cut.

Except that it messes up the flat sides of the clamp.

You aren’t cutting a bite out. Yes you skin it up but that won’t keep it from doing it’s job. As long as the clamps hold the parts together it doesn’t matter if they are perfect.

That's true but you see, I have OCD. Lol.

I have made Hundreds of compound Christmas ornaments and use a clamp exclusively.   I generally apply pattern and then cover the whole piece with packing tape.  I have strips of course sandpaper glued to inside edges of the clamp so I don't have to apply a lot of pressure to prevent slippage.   I find this method to be quite efficient.  For those that cut patterns that have lines that come right to the edge I would suggest use a little larger piece or leave a gap in the sandpaper.
