Foxfold Posted October 12, 2020 Report Share Posted October 12, 2020 (edited) My saw broke !!! Well, perhaps that's a bit dramatic. The pin that holds my tension lever in place fell out while I was cutting !! the tension lever rocketed into the air, goodness knows where the 'pin' went as I can't find it. I've asked Axminster if they've got a replacement but they haven't. They are going to see if they have any saws returned and try and take one from that and send it to me. Luckily, I still have my old saw down in Tony's workshop, so I'll have to take the pin out of that for the time being. Tony's going to measure the pin with his 'calliper' thing and I'll buy some metal dowels on line. Not a good day as I have quite a few things to cut that people are waiting for If this is how the day is going I'm not going to wash my best China today. I'm not real familiar with Axminster brand but isn't that the same as Excalibur ? If so you can try looking at www.seyco.com as Ray stocks all kinds of parts . He is located in the US. There is another place to look also. I think they are also bases in the US though. www.ereplacementparts.com. Pretty sure that is correct URL if not Google will find it. I don't know what the lever does but I think a piece of silver steel would be the cure. Hope you're up and running again very soon. A new tension lever + pin, free of charge. Now isn't that a lovely, refreshing gesture, great customer service. !!! kmmcrafts Posted October 12, 2020 Report Share Posted October 12, 2020 While you'd need to make sure you got the right sized pin.. most hardware stores should have the pin.. and probably less than $0.50.. That said.. It's good on them to send you a new whole assembly as those pins don't just fall out.. and if it did.. it may have damage to the hole that it goes through being wallowed out some by running it and not knowing it was coming out.. so even a new pin may fall out again.. should be a snug fit.. I would go with installing the assembly.. I have a feeling they might be thinking the same thing as me about the hole being wallowed out.. However, the 'pin' coming loose is one of it's 'faults' I knew that because my other saw did exactly the same. It's just that for some reason I haven't been checking. I presumed, quite wrongly, that it happened on my other saw because it was quite old and never gave it a thought with this saw as it's so new. Well you live and learn !! Brenda, I'm trying to recall, isn't your saw the same as a Hegner? It seems that I remember you having a problem with the bolt/bushing wearing out on your other saw. Am I right or did I dream it? Tony fixed it and that saw is now in his workshop. Me ?? I was impatient and bought myself a new one. The problem that they both have is that the tiny metal pin that keeps the quick tensioner attached to the front of the arm secure does vibrate loose, although the saw feels really smooth to me. My Delta has them and they don't come out, in fact they take some getting out when needed to be removed. You can get all sizes from most suppliers even Aldi and Lidl have packs of them in now and again and cost pennies, I'm sure if you measured the length and diameter of the original pin you'll find one to fit. I'll be without my saw until at least March. I have my friend amazingkevin doing some work for me. You might want to think about putting a couple of drops of supper glue on the end of that pin.
