What do you think of the Pegas scroll saw?

I'm a relatively newbie and started out with a 18" Porter Cable, but became very unhappy with it as the blade jumped around a lot so I decided to upgrade.  The 21" Pegas is a very good machine and used by many on here and is highly reccommended.

E-mail Dennis Knappen (he one of us) at  artcraftersscrollsaw@gmail.com for a price.  He does VERY good by us.  Don't forget to order the stand with it.  It is good and solid.  It took about a week to get mine as it ships by ground from PA and I'm in Florida.  He has good prices on Pegas blades also.

Dennis can get you a good magnifiying light and a foot switch also, if you don't have them....both are an absolute necessity.

I'm confident you would be happy with a 21" Pegas.  I know I am.

There are many brands under that same style of saw.. BUT.. the working parts on the inside are different among the others.. Of this style of saw.. I believe with the larger bearing in the pivot arm at the back of the saw would make this saw more robust over those other brands so I would definitely say the Pegas would be my choice.. Also would work with Denny from Artcrafters for my purchase first.. as I like to support the small business man if / when I can..

The stands I believe are no different than the other saws.. so while you may not be able to get one through Pegas... you may be able to find one in stock at a woodcraft or other store that carries those other brands..

When I buy a Pegas, I'll be selling my Ex-21 and keeping the stand so I would only need a saw.. I've been really thinking about selling the Ex now that I have it rebuilt and running decent.. I don't think it's completely right still especially at the highest speed I feel something isn't quite right..

Does the Pegas scrollsaw use the same type blade clamps that pinch the blade between two bolt heads?
Thanks for any pics and information.

yes that the way the pegas blade holders work, same as what was on the excalibers.  But the holder seems like it is made of milled aluminum rather than the cast type seen on the excalibers.

Well worth the investment if that is what you are thinking, I was a doubter in the beginning, not now though

That is the way that the Pegas replacement clamps for my Excalibur work, so I expect that's how their saw works.  But, the important thing to me is that Pegas has made their clamps work better.

Thanks for the replies. I am still not very fond of that type of blade clamp and do not understand
why even the expensive brands use these when some of the cheapest entry level saws came with
better clamps!
Oh, well, life goes on and I'll use my scrollsaw until I completely wear it out and keep hoping someone
comes out with replacement blade clamps that I can use on anything I am forced to buy with the bolt type
clamps.

God Bless! Spirithorse
