New Look

This new look of the Village site (SORRY) leaves me cold. Why fix what is not broke. There I've said it. Let the sticks and stones begin.

It's a work in progress.  Still tweeking.  I updated the software and things change.  So I try to make it look as nice as I can.  I know nobody likes change, but if I don't keep the software up to date, in a few years SSV becomes so out of date, it no longer functions (we almost ran into that a few years ago, if folks remember the olden days of SSV).  When technology leaves us behind, we have a dead site.

I do the best I can with the tools I have.  Everything still works the same, if that helps.

I understand. Getting old, I guess I resist change. It does look nice and open. What jolted me was viewing on my phone. There used to be a little do hikey in the upper right corner of the screen, like little slash marks, that would let me select forms. It was no longer there. Frustrated me trying to move around. Perhaps just something still in progress. I spend more time on this form than I do cutting. Terrible thing, I know. I use my cell phone for everything. OK. I'll be good now and be patient. You've done such a good job.  So thanks.

I'm guessing a lot of people resist change. I'm one of them to an extent . Greatly appreciate all the efforts and work that goes into the village behind the scenes. Thanks Travis for all you do.

I like change... especially when you "really" think about it... Just take a step back for a minute and think.. Big ol dinosaur computers and dial up internet.. rather browse the web with that computer on dial-up internet or like the changes and now use a mobile device for browsing the net, LOL  Change you minds now? LOL

I am still trying to catch up with my phone.  I am one of those gadget idiots.  My mother was not good with new fangled things now me.  Travis You keep my aging brain in trim.  But if I get stuck I calling on my SSV friends for help.

I have a similar feel about tradition just for the sake of tradition...especially as it pertains to my job as a pastor.

OTOH, as I am involved with a few forums, this change here seems less...well...foreign than others that I have seen updated. I have to say I like the look at first glance.

I hope it for the good, but at 81 i not much infavor of change. I have had this smart phonne for 2 years  and stillhaven't figured it out i hope I do better with this change.Old School

I like that you can now click "patterns" in the tool bar & go directly to the pattern library and not have to deal with the dropdown menu.

I have always had a short attention span, always changing stuff, Hobbies usually maxed out at 2 years, girlfriends 6mo to 2 years, 1st wife 5.

I have changed, my wife of 24 years Is the best thing that ever happened to me. I would not enjoy my life or hobbies as much as I do without her support.

My scrolling/ woodworking hobby is now over 16 years. 

So Travis I like the fresh look and I fully understand the need for software upgrades. You have done an amazing job with this site.! Software upgrades can be a disaster, the SSWWC debacle when they changed to a new software really hurt them.

Fresh coat of paint, some new curtains and a couple new throw pillows on the couch.  Looks OK to me.

LOL I know what you mean...in my younger years I used to "change ladies" often. But have one worth keeping for the last 23 or so years 

Fishing has been a constant hobby over my entire life, but other hobbies have faded in and out. I'm really enjoying the scroll saw though. I love the creativity and the fact I can "do it my way" as well as the unlimited subjects I can create with it.

Travis you do a fantastic job of keeping this place running!! I would be lost without it. And all the awesome guys and gals here that share so much information, patterns, ideas, and support!

Seems to me that you are confusing progress with change, or at least change for change sake.

I typically don't like change, especially from the credit union or credit card outfits. I visited every day. I noticed the change immediately.  But everything seems to function perfectly well and there's really no difference except a minor change in 'look'.  So I'm good with this. And because I don't say it often enough Thank You Travis.

Thanks for explaining.  Makes perfect sense.  Thanks for working so hard too.
I understand about the change thing too, I don't like it.  Don't like it now that I'm older, didn't like it when I was young. 
I didn't like the 'new' FB, but now I'm starting to get used to it and it's OK.

BUT, I do recall folks saying they'd never use a cell phone... then they'd never text as a phone is for calling.. and then why do they need a camera on a phone.. I'd never bank or shop from a phone.. 

I guess it is progress... but with progress comes change.. ie.. websites didn't used to be phone friendly.. I remember not too long ago having to scramble around to get my website mobile friendly.. which needed a change of ALL photo size requirements etc so they'd work on a phone as well as a PC.. so in all progress is change or change is progress  hmm confusing myself more than I already was, LOL 

For what it's worth, 70+ % of my shoppers shop from a mobile device.. just 4 years ago that was just 18%

First I want to thank you Travis for all you do for us here on the forum.  I for one really appreciate what you do for us.   I guess I'm as resistant to change as anyone my age (76) but I also realize it is necessary to keep up so we don't become obsolete.   I agree with Rolf the software change at SSWWC a few years ago was a real bummer.   Things didn't work well and the software company didn't seem very interested in fixing the issues created.   As a result member participation went way down and patients wore thin resulting in some members leaving.  I just hope something like that never happens here.   As long a my son and grandson are willing to help me with the technology I can't figure out, I'll hang in here.
