nrscroller
HI everyone, I may have asked this a long time ago, but now I am starting to scroll again to make things for the Holidays. Question I have is how do you tell the lower blade holder sizes? I have some and they are not marked. I use the Pegas 2.0 blades mostly because I work with 1/8 BB plywood. What holder number would work best with that blade? Thanks for the help Bill OCtoolguy
OCtoolguy
If I recall from when I had mine, the slot in the holders is wide or narrow. There is not a whole lot of difference to the naked eye. Whatever slot is the closest to the blade you are using. I hope this helps. stoney
Like others have said the smaller holders have a narrower slot but some brands of smaller blades will also work in the larger clamps. The small slot clamps will also accept some larger blades depending on the brand. Edited November 7, 2020 by stoney OCtoolguy
Rockytime
Good question. Hegner would do well by marking, etching or whatever, the size of the holder. All my machine tools, collets, end mills, taps and others are marked. Whatever nickle or dime it would be offset by customer appreciation and loyalty. danny, OCtoolguy, Jim Finn and 1 other 3
Ken Lotts
I puzzled through this business of Hegner clamp sizes just today so I figured I would throw in on this conversation. I have the small size and the medium size and to my eye they look identical (I don't see all that well though LOL). I can clamp a #9 FD-UR blade in the small clamp (which surprised me) so I think small size is pretty much "medium" in my book (lol). What I found as a way to positively identify which is which was that on the "medium" clamp I was able to slide a #9 FD blade in from the back side (from the circle end where the slot is narrowest). This wasn't possible when I tried it on the small clamp. Purely an academic test since no one would ever try to put a blade in like that. I etched an "M" on the medium clamps and put them in storage. I don't expect to need them very often. OCtoolguy and Jim Finn 1
Scrappile
This is what Advance Machinery site" How do you easily identify which clamp is which? Small and large slot clamps both have a smooth top, but are easy to differentiate since the large slot is twice the size of the small one. The medium slot clamp has a dimple in its top so you can easily tell it apart from the others. Also, all separately ordered clamp pairs are supplied in individual bags identifying their size.
