new2woodwrk
We're considering offering some of our products locally on a consignment basis. Interest if anyone else is doing this... How successful? Commission Rate? Any other questions I'm missing? Thanks as always in advance

Devin Wilson
I have my items in a store locally its in a small rural town and called The Country Boutique. She charges a 25% commission on everything sold. I've had stuff in there about a month now and made a few sales nothing to write home about though. She had a Halloween event and we went over and took a scroll saw and cut little puzzles for the kids just to get our name out in the area. She does a great job promoting the stuff on social media and she also sells it online too. Everything we bring is posted to her website for people to buy for store pickup or shipping. So that aspect has been great and I think it will go good in the long run. She pays weekly through Square Payroll so I don't have to go pickup a check or anything. Get to know the other vendors because they may make things that you can make a little side cash with. Example I'm cutting out some turkey's this week and the lady does a craft night with the kids where they come in and paint them. So I'm supplying the turkeys just cut from the 1/4 birch plywood from Lowes. new2woodwrk
kmmcrafts
I did it for a 6 month contract.. I made sales.. but not enough to cover my fees.. not to mention I was to go once a week to do my own dusting and arranging my display etc... so I lost money on travel fuel and time.. the place was almost an hour drive away too.. so my experience was not good.. Oh forgot to mention.. some items walked off.. Good things to ask is.. do they cover anything for theft or damaged goods... insurance if the place burns down or? who covers the taxes.. Probably more things to ask but that gives you an idea.. new2woodwrk
LarryEA
I just consigned a few of mine. New place that has two stores. Charges 25% and there is no tax... It's Christmas time so we will see. I have a list with my prices of items in the store. I think it's a good move, better than sitting in my shop. danny and new2woodwrk 1
blondewood
I did it for a year. Nice people, BUT for some reason I had trouble getting paid. Supposedly lousy software, which it was. Eventually everything got straightened out and I was paid all that I was due. Not worth the head aches and hassles for me personally. I wanted it to be easier for me than selling it myself and it just wasn't. new2woodwrk
BadBob
The only people that make money on consignments are the shop owners. danny, new2woodwrk and Jim Finn 2
Denny Knappen
As a shop owner, we do not like consignment. People with consignment items tend to forget about the items. We charge for shelf space. $15 a month and 15% commission. The store charges and pays sales tax. new2woodwrk
WayneMahler
We have one locally. Looked into it and decided not to do it. They charge $40 a month plus 11%. Thought that was too pricey. I believe there area you got was 10 foot of wall space and a table for display. Looking around the shop, most of the stuff looked a little un-organized and in some what of a disarray. The people working there were very nice though. new2woodwrk
Jim McDonald
I have my state quarter magnets in a shop that charges 30 points. May seem a bit heavy, but I still make what I would from table sales on the item. I made a display frame from steel and chalkboard paint and they call me with special orders. I check every 10 days or so on "regular" inventory needs. new2woodwrk
Jim Finn
Never worked for me even at 40% fee. new2woodwrk
