Fish Posted November 15, 2020 Report Posted November 15, 2020 How do you know how big to make an urn. Dad wants me to make him one and he weighs about 200 lbs. I weigh 155. How big would it have to be? Is the bottom supposed to be removable in order to put the ashes in it? I have seen some made out of stone and the inside was pretty small. I want to find some ideas to make one and adding an Irish symbol to the top, maybe a shamrock for dad. I appreciate the help you all give. Quote
don in brooklin on Posted November 15, 2020 Report Posted November 15, 2020 A friend used to make urns and he said it was 1 cubic inch per pound. So is would have to be 200 inches. He made them so the bottom was removable with screws. Be_O_Be 1 Quote
Roberta Moreton Posted November 15, 2020 Report Posted November 15, 2020 I have helped make urns. They were 9”x9”. The tops and bottoms have a bit of an overhang. The bottom is screwed on so that the ashes will be inserted that way. Be_O_Be 1 Quote
Fish Posted November 15, 2020 Author Report Posted November 15, 2020 Thanks. I just got some oak and cherry from a family friend, I'm going to give it a try. Quote
