I mainly wanted it for the planer and the bandsaw but intended to hook it up to many other machines.. I bought a tubing kit from HF which came with 2 10ft flex hoses some fittings, and plastic blast gates.. Good deal if you can get a 20% coupon to boot makes it a great place to buy.. Anyway, I just have the flex hose going to my planer and one clamped to my bandsaw.. use the planer more so I leave it hooked up on that and when I need to run the bandsaw I just swap the hose on the collector to the bandsaw, LOL One day I'll set up a more permanent system... OCtoolguy Posted November 24, 2020 Report Share Posted November 24, 2020 Dave, from what I have heard and/or read, you want to leave the feed/suction line as large as it is at the vac and neck it down as close to the pick up point as possible and try to keep the piping as large as you can. You want air flow volume so necking down too much destroys the suction. 6" down to 4" should work fine. But taking it down smaller might be detrimental to flow volume. new2woodwrk Posted November 25, 2020 Report Share Posted November 25, 2020 My piping is a disaster! I keep meaning to redo it, but I just don't get the time anymore. IMO - run the 6" out the port as far as you can. I run a sewer piper out of my HF 2hp unit along the ceiling. When it reaches the first drop, I drop to 2" with a gate. I need to run another hose line soon as I added a few tool carts since my first run. I'll probably swap out the sewer duct for PVC pipe and go that route for the whole run Can't wait to see what you do! I have the unit in a different part of the basement than the majority of my shop to reduce the noise impact upstairs. The end of the furthest run is ~30 ft. and that has a reducer to 2" for my Router table and I still have plenty of airflow. The critical fine dust generators like my pneumatic drum sander (intarsia) all have 4" drops. I use a handheld remote. I did not glue any of the joints because I am not sure if my layout is permanent as it is now. If need be I use the metallic AC duct tape not the other crap that always leaves a residue. My ceilings are low so the gates are easy to reach. The pdf file is a rough layout of my current setup. Has the shop vac/cyclone bucket worked OK, other than moving a pia? I've got a WEN 3410 on order to clean the breathing aspect. I'm also looking at a HF/ Central Mach. 2 HP 1500cfm collector. Not sure of the real need for a 1. canister filter to replace bag, 2. 4" Dust Deputy setup to drop out larger stuff B4 going in the collector. Regarding the canister filters vs bag the bad stuff is the fine stuff! so if you are going to the trouble putting in a centralized system, in my opinion, a canister filter is a must. I have the Central Machinery from Harbor Freight seen here Dust Collector - Great Deals on Dust Collectors at Harbor Freight It could be moved around easily enough if need be but, I just ran one suction hose to a large drum so heavy pieces drop to the bottom of that and then another hose coming out of that to the equipment I am using. I also have a second hose coming from the other fitting on the dust collector that can be moved from one machine to another without the barrel between. Good luck with your set up and God Bless!
