Popular Post flarud
I posted about this in the "Works in Progress" folder last week. I found some cool looking wood at Lowe's, 3/4" tongue and groove Pine that already has a blueish stain applied to it. I bought a few pieces and played around with them until I got this. Here is a pic with some blue LED's behind it. It looks much better in person than in the pic. I have already sold two more of these. I think they are pretty neat looking,, no two look alike. The below pic is one of the ones that is sold, with and without the lights on. Another one that I have cut out has 2 Palm trees on it that looks pretty neat too. dgman
Looks good Barry. FYI, that is not stained pine. It is called blue pine. It is caused by a beetle the permeates the wood and discolors it.

I didn't know about the beetles, I believe it but I'm pretty sure there is a little help from a man-made process somehow,, there looks to be too much uniformity to be insect only. It's pretty wood for sure.

Dan
It does look very cool. I do agree with Dan about the source of the blue. Once the beetle starts the discoloration the longer it stays wet the more the blue can spread. Of course, man can play a part by keeping it wet longer. The holes are a good sign of the beetle's work. Pretty amazing and a great find, especially from Lowe's. Edited December 3, 2020 by Dan I need to start proofreading my posts.
