Bench Table Saw ?

Has anyone built and use a rig like this using a bench style table saw? It would be a PIA to build something like this, But you could mount a long rail and mount a Biesemeyer style fence. Just a thought when I saw a few on Pinterest. Pros vs cons ?

I don't want to come off as bashing benchtop saws, but to me, putting a 52" Biesmeyer fence on a table top saw is a little like putting lipstick on a pig.  The fence is probably worth more than the saw.

That said, I have heard of similar configurations, only a cabinet saw instead of a benchtop.  It looks cool and very sophisticated, but I never liked the idea of a router table tied in with my TS.  Space restrictions may make it desirable for some.  I don't have a big shop, but I don't think that set up would work very well for me.  We all work differently, so to each his own.

One of my woodworking courses had a similar project to build. But because I have a contractors saw it was useless for me to make.

However, lots of others in the class made it and it is quite handy, specially for small shops!

I'm not really interested in the router table part as I have one already. Though it is cool if you have a small shop.

I was wondering about a good quality saw at a more reasonable price than a hybrid or cabinet of the same brand and still being able to have 30+ inches of rip capacity. Delta, Grizzly, DeWalt, Ridgid, even Saw Stop make bench top or folding models that could be used.

Just saw a bunch pf photos and wondered.

I have a Delta contractor,

If I were to get another which I consider once in awhile, I would probably get a Rigid - the one that allows dado's. The price is right and it's nice and small and I can make one of those roll around tables for it

The others are all great saws and my Delta is the best tool I've ever purchased, but for me and the price, the Rigid would do it,

Are you talking about the R4520 they sell for $749?

Nope:

This one here

Allows a 6" dado stack - more than enough for most of what I do

The wood courses I've taken, the instructor uses one of these

There is also the R4514 - also under $500.

Here you go. A Ridgid, in place of the DeWalt, saw in a roll around table. And as a bonus , by building the cabinet you can add tons of storage!

I have the rigid 4516 and I like it alot. If I was cabinet building I would get a sawstop

They want a lot of money for all of them. If you took out the blade break they are famous for...is the saw itself any better quality than others with like size and features?

yes the sawstop is a beautiful machine, well worth the money even without the safety feature, i have a 3hp sawstop, RJ

Have you blown one of those $80 breaks on a piece of wood with too much moisture?

no not yet and i have used it alot over the last 4 years, you have to be aware of what you are cutting, RJ

So you haven't tried the "hot dog" test...LOL. I would love to have one, but can't justify the expense no more than I use one.

I won't say "no more than I use It" any more.  I bought a drum sander this year and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't use it.

I like the looks of that one. I have a Dewalt jobsite saw and after "tuning" it up, I've decided to keep it. I might build something like this. Where'd you find it?

Search them on Pinterest. There's a lot pf photos and some plans. I saw one while looking at something else and followed the pages. I think it's interesting. A lower cost way to have a good quality saw with a 30-52" rip along with an assembly table and tons of storage to boot.

 Interesting post because I'm right in the middle of building a mobile saw/router table right now. My existing work bench has been in place since the mid 80's and has served me well. The bench is 10' long x 42" wide bowling lane with a mid 60's craftsman table saw mounted to the left and the out feed table was a kindergarten desk top that I made into a router table. Perfect set up for a Biesemeyer fence but I could never justify the cost. Between the saw & table I'm under 150.00. I am able to cut 19" to the left & by tacking a straight edge to the work bench I can cut up to 50" to the right. pre router pic.

   

 I've spent the better part of this year downsizing & rearranging the tools on the outside 3 walls of the shop. Now that that is done I find myself walking around the bench more and the size of my projects don't really call for a bench this size. The last big project on the bench is a new bench. The whole trick now is to finish the new one up until the point, which I'm about there, I put the saw in its new home.

 

 The saw will sit on the low side with the switch to the right and the top flush with a new router table. I plan to put track into the router table that with allow me to use a homemade fence for the table saw to cut 25" to the right, enough to cut a sheet in half.

Cool! I knew it would be of interest to someone. I'm thinking about a bench like you're building. I saw one like it on Pinterest with a jointer, Delta I think, on top and a DeWalt 735 planer on the lower. With some wheels it looked like a slick rig for milling.
