Yup, big time.  Once, and only once, I back-talked to my Mom when she was holding a shovel. She smacked me on the hip with the flat of the shovel, 'bout knocked me over! I learned to check her hands before I got sassy after that!!

Can't say I never earned what I got, and never a hard done-by feeling afterward, just a lesson learnt.

Mum used her thong (Flip Flops for the uneducated ) or a wooden spoon, but the absolute worst punishment was "Just you wait until your Father gets home". Was **** scared and used to lay awake in bed waiting for her to tell him. The funny thing is, he never, or very very rarely hit us kids. He'd come into the bed room and although I'd be pretending and wishing like hell I was asleep he'd give me a shake, sit on the side of the bed and have a chat. Hear my side and then offer some good advice. Yet the next time I hear those fateful words, I still shat myself, over and over again.

I pissed my mom off at less than age 6,coming home walking from the store. She kicked me between the legs and dragged me home by 2 houses in the grass by my foot. It was hilarious what I did but not to her!!! The neighbors were hysterically laughing!!!

I heard a comedian say once that a "time out", in his experience, was how long it took to regain consciousness.

My Dad always said, "want a lick'n or a lecture.... we always to the lick'n, it was over faster and then was back outside playing...
