Frames

I may have posted this Jim Blume before but what I'm really posting is the frame. I have a bunch of particle board that I was thinking of throwing out. Then I noticed one side is very smooth and I kind of liked the geometric shapes. I made a frame to try my rebuilt sled for my table saw. There is no finish on the frame. Also it is very smooth and should take paint easily.

I try not to use that stuff though! Seem at least partly allergic to the sawdust from it.

Excellent idea  I'm going to keep it in mind and use it with something that I do that I think will work with this type of frame.

Gladly, I don't have any of that board - I avoid it at all costs if possible

That said, I have not seen any that have a "smooth" backing. All the stuff around here is rough and feels like it is "shedding" when you run hand over it

However, nicely done thinking outside the box for sure!

very nice, but I'd be concerned about the glue that hold all the wood chips together causing health problems

I dond't have any don't like the stuff and hear that it is unhealthy and at my age I want to stay away from that stuff.

I think that looks great.  Years ago, our local newspaper ran items on unique houses.  There was an architect who used this as the flooring and just coated it with clear finish.

If you needed to frame a rustic looking picture this would look great. Kind of a weathered look.

I have used that stuff (in Northern Ontario we call it Aspenite) on several floors at Pellow's Camp.  I hammer it down, countersink the nails, use wood filler on the holes, sand everything down to 120 grit, then but 4 or 5 coats of Varathane on it.  It looks good, it's cheap, it last's well, and (once the floor has been sealed) it's safe.

Here is a (not very good) photo of my daughter Kristel playing on one such floor shortly after I installed that floor 45 years ago.

It’s an interesting idea Les. I’m curious to see how it looks stained or painted.

Here are some stain samples. Top to bottom: Gunstock, Cherry, Honey Pine, Ebony. All are MinWax stain. Apparently except for the Honey Pine darker stains are a no go. I do think the nice smooth surface should take paint very well. Second photo just compares the Honey Pine stain with unfinished Particle Board.

I like the look of the Honey Pine, it darkens it just enough to give it a bit of contrast with Baltic Birch.

Very creative Les!! It has a very casual/rustic look, so in some applications its very good and in others I don't think it will work well. Are the corners simply glued together or did you add some mechanical fastener? And how thick is it?
