Wow! Some of you crafters amaze me. I'll never post another project. I'm in awe of stuff like this. It's absolutely  gorgeous. I can only dream of making something this beautiful.

It's tough enough doing fretwork a my age. Beyond my capabilities now. Excellent

I wish I had that piece of wood about 15 years ago. I might try something like that table of yours.

ben- i acquired that slab very similar to how you did. an acquaintence asked me to build a few things for his screenprinting business. when i dropped them off at his house he showed me the slab in his garage. the slab sat in the office of a machine shop he worked in and the boss was going the throw it away. the slab was  4/4 RS,26" wide, and 7 feet long. he took it home with him where it sat in his garage for 10 years- until the night i dropped off those things for his screenprinting business.

THEN it sat in my shop for a year or so. i was rather afraid to cut into it- its mahogany and mistakes like i can make are NOT good! :)

Just came home from picking up some wood from lumber supplier.  They said by the picture it looks like padouk or bloodwood. FYI is there price list for exotic wood.

I have both Padouk and Bloodwood on hand and it looks nothing like either of them. But, like I said I really have no clue. I may learn a little more when I actually cut it. I have some experience with bloodwood and it's extremely dense and hard to cut on the scroll saw. Paduak not so much.

Thanks for the info.

beautiful work on the table, I'm no longer posting my work on here either, 😂

Now from the car guy on here, LOL.. That looks like a AMC Pacer in the background? If so, that be the first one I've seen in about 30 years, LOL

Yes I am

I'm leaning towards a fretwork wall clock or maybe some shelves for the dining room. I'm not into furniture. I have made a few wall clocks in the last 20 or so years. Gave most all away except this one

I have made a few fret clocks too. I tried a wooden gear clock but could not get it to run. I gave up on it but I still have the plans so who knows what the future may bring.  I have eye the train clock pattern you used but never got around to buying the plans. My look them up again.

I know you say you don’t do furniture. But a nice big piece of wood like you have needs to be made into a table or something.  Not cut up into frets.  JMO. But hay it is yours to do what you want lol

The person who gave me the hunk of wood expects me to make a fretwork piece from it. He wants something for his desk at work and possible something for his home. A nautical desk clock or something similar to remind him of his dad.

I'm going to cut off about 18/19 inches and turn that into smaller pieces of 1/2" thickness. Hopefull I can resaw them on my bandsaw. That will still leave me over 5 feet to make other items.  My wife has asked me to do some wall shelves or a small cabinet with glass doors for the dining room. Snack tables for the family room.  I also do Intarsia.  I can find many uses for this wood besides fretwork.

'77 to be exact. i did quite an extensive body resto on it. pretty much all metal from the body line on door down around the entire car was replaced. no aftermarket body parts for these(can you believe that!!!!) and used parts are scarce. shaping them rear corners below the tail lights- i think i have an idea what its like to make motorcycle gas tanks from scratch!

owner dropped a 302 in it and did some suspension work after. i got to drive it once. it was a pretty fun ride.

ill have to see if i can fond pics of it. it came out pretty nice
