Have any of you folks seen this Youtube series?

I ran across this guy the other day. He does some beautiful woodwork. Typical German quality. He put together this series on woodworking tools from China that are of great quality. Not the cheap junk that many of us have become accustomed to. I have watched a few of the videos and am impressed by what he has shown. He seems to be buying everything from an outfit by the name of Banggood. They have a website, Banggood.com and I have been drooling over a lot of the nice tools. So, I thought I'd ask here to see if anybody has any firsthand knowledge and if so, tell us about it. It appears that the first in the series is no longer available but here is the link to the 2nd one and you can go on from there.

Interesting. When he first held it up I thought Woodpeckers.

That's what I thought too. When I watched his first video on building his workbench, I had to reply to him and say that I'd love to be able to afford all the great tools he used but that would never happen. He came back to me and suggested that I watch his series on China tooling. It appears that he has found Chinese products that equal or surpass some of the great ones made in this country. The stuff I could never afford. Now, maybe I can.

I just watched a different video. It was a comparison on some tools. Banggood was where one of them came from. Can't remember #3 but the first was wood peckers.  I enjoyed the video but after thought was like comparing a VW to a Mercedes Benz. I'll have to watch this video later on. Always like getting quality for less.

I guess i have to agree with Dan.... China has is not the place to buy right now..

I agree Paul. I guess I can get along without any of those tools. I have so far. I just found it interesting. Seems that you can make a great product and sell it cheap using slave labor.

What I saw was him saying that the China tools had issues and he recommended the INCRA over the China tool. And in the next one he flat out showed the combination square was sloppy.

You are right but he is very fair. If a tool doesn't stand up to his scrutiny, he says so but he will also praise one if it does pass. I just like seeing how he goes about it.

I've owned the Incra Precision T-Rule for a couple of years and I really like it when laying out cuts, especially when the tolerances are tight. I used it last week to layout mortises in a coffee table. Each end has five slats that mortise to the aprons and stretchers. (1 5/8 slats with 3/8 gap between each) My only issue with it has been my old eyes have difficulty with the very small markings. Do I need something this accurate. I certainly don't NEED it. But as the years go by I make an effort to make my work better, in some way, all the time. If I cut a mortise 1/32 too large the slat will rattle around, unless I glue it. And if it's 1/32 undersize I'll be trying to pair off a 1/32 for the tenon on the slat. And when it's all done will the customer know, not a chance. But I'll know and that's whats important.

I bought a new set of extra strong 'cheaters' and that has helped.   I also have their miter gauge for about 10 years, like it a lot.

I always make an attempt to purchase American when I can. If I can't I'll try to purchase for any country but China.

I have Incra rulers, their miter gauge and they are good and accurate... no doubt... I also had the Incra table saw fence.... I did not ever get use to it... just too complicated for this old man... I an a measure, tap tap... I never got use to their fence... sold it and went back to my original fence that came with my saw... measure, tap, tap... I got these instruments when I build my street organ because I needed precision to build the pipes.

Hi, Ray,
I am just replying because of the mention of Banggood
The BBB gives them a rating of 2.3 out of 5 with 109 complaints in the last 12 months
and a site called BestLegitReviews gave a rating of about 5 out of 10. That review can be
viewed here. The last line of their review states, "Don’t forget, buying from China often comes with its difficulties."

In a nut-shell, what I am pointing out is, I would be more concerned about just flat out getting ripped off
than worrying about the quality of the tools.

God Bless! Spirithorse

Yes, there is that. Great point. It brings my memory back to a couple of pairs of shoes I ordered from an outfit on Facebook. A great price on Merrill walking shoes. Half what I had been paying. I ordered one pair and then the next day I ordered a second pair but in a different color. I received neither pair. They sent me tracking numbers and I tracked them as they were in transit. All of a sudden the tracking said "delivered". Not to me. After going through the Post Office Fraud Dep't. I was told that they went to 2 different addressed in the same town I live in but a different zip code. They wouldn't tell me anything more than that. I contacted PayPal but they said they couldn't help me. Finally I contacted Capital One and told them my story. They refunded my money and went after the shipper. I never heard anything more. Thanks for refreshing my memory. No more Chinese products. I must keep telling myself that. No such thing as a free lunch or a deal too good to believe.
