ChelCass
I am always on the lookout for wood for my ornaments. I found these 3" x 7" wood planks which I think might be popular (not sure). I found them at of all places Dollar Tree. So I bought two packages. Today I did a test cut. Yikes! The wood cuts like butter, there is next to nothing in sawdust and sanding is minimum. There are 6 plank in a package for $1.00. Dang I should have bought more. Went to the website hoping to buy a case and of course they don't have any..................Crap now I have to go to all the Dollar Tree stores near me a see if I can find more. WayneMahler
Congrats on your find. Wondering if it is bass wood. Very light in color and weight, no real grain pattern so it's pretty plain looking wood. It is like one step above Balsa wood and tons of people use it for crafts . Regardless happy to hear of your delightful discovery. Hope you find more. One last thought, it's a great wood paint, does not stain well for crap. FrankEV
If you found it in the craft area it is either Bass or Balsa wood. If you found it in the kitchen area it is propbaply wood intended to be used for serving/cooking food like Susi. You can find nice Cedar planks about that same size, about 1/4"(-) thick for cooking fish on in specialty kitchen ware shops. As the package says, made in China so you will probably never know what it is. OCtoolguy, ChelCass and danny
Scrappile
Looks like bass wood to me. I like scrolling it especially if I can get slabs with bark on the sides.. ChelCass and OCtoolguy
ike
I just bought 1/8 Bass wood havent cudt or tried to stain it yet I got them *"X12" for $12. If they don't take stain try useing a damp cloth with Mineral spirets I always use it on baltic berch and thy take stains a lot better that way, IKE OCtoolguy

Do a google search of the UPC numbers on the bar code that they use to scan at the register.. sometimes you get lucky and find other sources besides the dollar stores.. Already did that. Ebay has some for $4.00 each. I'll pass on those. They will eventually get them back in stock. kmmcrafts and OCtoolguy
ChelCass
Update: Went over to Amazon and found 4 inch circles (I hate cutting circles) 24 pieces for 6.99 (29 cents each) Plus 4 inch square pieces 60 for $14.89 (.24 each). For those who make a lot of ornaments this might be something to look at. Now I have Prime so I get free shipping. Edited February 17, 2021 by ChelCass Oops! forgot pictures. nrscroller
Hi I went to our local smaller Dollartree, nothing. I went to a larger one and nothing. They must not stock very well or else they aren't getting any more in. Bill ChelCass and OCtoolguy 1
