Popular Post new2woodwrk
So after reading all the responses (thanks all) of what to do with my scraps, I've decided to make the following Children's sets. When I place patterns for cutting, in all the gaps, I also place any of these smaller patterns giving me a lot less scrap overall. It also allows me to use the new scrap pieces I get from the local lumber yard they are giving me. These sets are made from Basswood and Pine scraps and can be painted/colored and are becoming fairly popular at our events. I have several more made from Oak and poplar scraps as well Thanks as always in advance Edited February 11, 2021 by new2woodwrk meflick, amazingkevin, TexasDIY and 11 others

FrankEV
Very neat cutting and a really great way to use up scraps. As long as you have an outlet for them its a Win-Win situation. I have a lot of small 1/8 and 1/4 panel leftovers. I know I should do a bunch of ornaments for Xmas or some of the small multi layer patterns that are available, but the bigger projects always seem more satisfying to complete. amazingkevin and new2woodwrk
wombatie
They are great, I especially like the cats. Do you sell them unpainted? Marg new2woodwrk and amazingkevin
rdatelle
I did a lot like that with some of my scraps. I give them all away to the kids. new2woodwrk and amazingkevin

Marg Yes, I have an entire inventory and display set up aimed at the children's market. I market them as Children's Art projects - consists of all unfinished puzzles, wall hangers, these items and a few more I'm coming up with over the next few weeks. BadBob
I made these yesterday. I keep patterns of small toys in the shop for this. I'm currently making a batch of dragon toys. Everything except the body is made from cut-offs. ChelCass and Tomanydogs

barb.j.enders
I was reading a newsletter from another source that was talking about organizing the workshop in a weekend. I stopped reading it after the first paragraph where is said - throw out any piece of wood 1 foot or shorter!!! Then I thought, I should find someone who is following those rules!!! new2woodwrk, ChelCass and Scrappile

I keep reading where I'm supposed to toss out all my scrap but I just can't bring myself to throw in the garbage something I may be able to use or figure out a use for in the future. After all, a tree gave its life for these projects and I just can't let that go to waste Being a pack rat doesn't help either

Scrappile
A few years ago, I had an idea of making some little things from scapes that I could carry in my pockers and randomly hand out to little children.... I came up with this little bear.. I thought it was cute, but I was not brave enough to hand them out.. A lot of parents are, understandingly, cautious about strangers giving their children things... I did not want some parent hitting me over the head or calling the police on me.
