Popular Post young ned
Two more inlays (only because they are easy) a generic Hare and hopefully a likeness of our dog Holly, I didn't get the pointy ears quite right unfortunately, but the grandchildren recognised her straight away, so it must be somewhere close Woods and pattern same as last time, Steve Good pattern, 1 1/4" mahogany for box 1/4 mahogany top and base, 1/4ย Oak for inlay, I would like to use a whiter wood for the inlay, if you haveย any suggestions for it, that are easily available in the UK it would be greatly appreciated, I'm not very up on woods I use what I can scavenge or have given me as a rule for my scrolling, yes I am a very poor tightย git lol ย PS. the pic of Holly is from 2014 Dave Monk, Wilson142, Dan and 18 others

FrankEV
Maple is a great contrasting compliment to any dark wood, especially Walnut.ย ย Yes it can be exspensive but if you are only going to use it to make inlays you can get a lot out of one board.ย https://ocoochhardwoods.com/ย is a good source. BTW, nice work. amazingkevin, young ned and Dave Monk

Thank you for taking the time toย comment Frank, I think the shipping cost to the UK from Ocooch Hardwoods would be a bit over my virtually non existent budget, I will look for a UK supplier though, thanks again amazingkevin and danny

Jim Finn
WHENย I do inlay, for the lightย wood, I use Hard maple (Preferred) soft maple or Basswood. ((linden?) Holly is the whitest I am told.ย Aspin would also work well.ย Poplar not so much.ย I inlay into Eastern red cedar, and oak does not contrast well with it , in my opinion. ย danny and heppnerguy

don watson
I am bringing this back to life as I have an interest in doing some inlay work. @young ned, did you find any suppliers in the UK for wood. ?? I have been looking at Hobbies.co.uk as it seems to be the only spot I can find and it supplies mostly 1/4" thick (6mm) materials. Is there anyone else can help ?
