Popular Post Joe W. Posted February 23, 2021 Popular Post Report Posted February 23, 2021 And it works! You can turn it in a complete circle over and over and . . . Saw this on Steve Good's website and it grabbed me right away. What should have been a one day project turned into 3 - Murphy's Law paid me a visit with the tension knob not tightening. It's doing its job now, but I need to order a new one. The underside where the tension rod is - well, the indentations that the tension rod sleeve catches on were just about worn smooth. I noticed if I apply downward pressure while applying tension, it will tighten up just fine. If I just move the tension knob horizontally, it doesn't take up the tension like it is supposed to. Anyway, I had a happy ending once I got that sorted out. Thinking of staining/painting the support and base a darker color and just doing a clear coat on the shells. new2woodwrk, jollyred, frankorona and 16 others 18 1 Quote

FrankEV Posted February 24, 2021 Report Posted February 24, 2021 I like very much. Should be a great conversation piece. Boy am I dumb...brain fart! Read your post over and over. Could not figure where a tensioning piece was on the cutting. Light bulb finally lit up after rereading again and realized you were talking about your saw, dahhh. Joe W. 1 Quote
Charlie E Posted February 24, 2021 Report Posted February 24, 2021 Love that! I'll be making one of those for the grandkids. Thanks for posting! Joe W. 1 Quote

I did adjust the set screws this morning and last evening ordered a new tension knob and clamps. Fingers crossed for a normal delivery time for parts. FrankEV 1 Quote
heppnerguy Posted February 24, 2021 Report Posted February 24, 2021 A very interesting pattern. I thought for sure I would see a reply from Scrappile and he did not let me down. I know first hand that he enjoys the little gear projects, he comes across. It is almost mind boggling to look at it and understand that is can actually turn smoothly. Dick heppnerguy Joe W. 1 Quote

Here's a link you can copy and paste that takes you to Steve Good's website showing the gear in operation and also has some additional information about it. https://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2020/06/nautilus-gears-scroll-saw-pattern.html Quote

Rockytime Posted March 18, 2021 Report Posted March 18, 2021 I made one today from scrap Plywood. It does work except I notice that the depthing of the teeth to the root are not consistent. The teeth go from slight contact to complete contact. Does yours do that? Quote

The one I made works fairly smoothly. Te mesh of the teeth seemed to be fairly consistent. My problem was the size of the hole I made in the gears was too big (did not have the correct bit as specified) and the allignment was very sloppy. Did not think a 32th of an inch would make a big difference but it did. However, by adding some tape to the dowels I was able to center the gears and now all works fine. Rockytime 1 Quote
