ike Posted February 25, 2021 Report Share Posted February 25, 2021 I went to my lumber a=yard to get some BB ply and they were out so Idd3ecded to look around. they had a staack of 8 ft popular marked down to $275 pr board ft. Well wlhat can I get it for he said tat there was a little over 50 BF.and I could have it for $125 I agreed tp that and bought 8 ft of 6" soft maple for $37 I knew I had a good deal and I figured it out @ 53 board ft . Les, one board foot is 144 square inches. 12 x 12 x 1" or any multiple? of that. Say 6" wide by 24" long by 1" thick is one board foot. I bought 118bdft in Dec. my total was $247 That said, I only get that price because of two reasons.. First being if you buy over 100bdft they discount the price.. and the other reason is if you spend a certain amount with them every year they put you in different price brackets for the year.. I spent $8000 with them so my price bracket puts me in at real low price points. Normal 1/8 BB ply runs near $16 per 5 x 5 sheet.. my price is $11.. A board 6" wide x24" long x 1" thick which will actually be 3/4" will be priced as 1 board foot. A board that is 6" wide x24" long x2" thick which is actually 1.5 inches will be sold as 2 board feet. Should also add that hard woods are sold by the 1/4 thickness. A one inch board is considered 4/4 a two inch board is considered 8/4 a 1.5 inch board before it is planed is 6/4 which would net you out to about 1 1/8" thick after planing. Are you saying that it would be $2.45 for each foot? That makes no sense. I'll bet you are paying $2.45 per board foot. I'd like to see how they calculate your cost on a board 6" wide x 1" thick by 10 feet long. If what you are saying, you'd only pay $24.50. Is that right? So when you pay by the BF for say "a dressed 1X6" you are paying for the waste and getting only 3/4 X 5 1/2. Lumber yards that sell dressed lumber ususally sell by the LF (linear foot) and the price per LF may vary based on the length of boards available. Some specially lumber providers sell rough sawn material priced by the BF for the various spiecies. This can be quite cheap but they will charge for planing services over and above the BF price. This can be as much as an extra $1/bf. Rough sawn is only great if you own a planer and can plane you own material to the thicknesses you want. You really can not equate BF prices to stock dressed lumber, but need to compare LF pricing. Right, It's hard to get into those price brackets unless you buy a lot of tools and or lumber.. LOL.. having this CNC helps me spend a lot of money with them.. buying bits, add-ons etc... and you can scrap a lot of lumber in one day if you don't know how to use the CNC correctly.. also can scrap $50 - 75 bits in 2 seconds if you don't know what you're doing.. don't ask how I know these things.. Not really wanting to tell the stories, Hahahaha..
