I've been given some timber (again), most is PAR but there was four wood slices amongst it, I was told it's oak but not 100% certain, the slices are between 7 & 9 inches across and 1 to 1 3/4 inch thick, now the rub what to do with them ?, I've thought of a nativity but it's wrong time of year, but after that I'm struggling for ideas, I've added a picture so you can see them, the marks on them are not splits and they are dry ready to saw, so ladies and gents any ideas or pattern suggestions would be appreciated 🙂

P.S.  I forgot to add they have bark on 🙂

Considering the spalting on the wood, be careful to not breathe the dust from sanding them.  The markings are caused by a fungus, and the dust might not be too healthy.  Be sure to wear dust protection and maybe go outside in a breeze.

Cheers for the heads up Tom, I do wear a dust mask when sanding 👍

I might be thinking outside the box, but I have some that are drying right now that I intend to make clocks and tables. The clocks will be routed in the center and pour self leveling epoxy resin for a finish. That is what I plan to do.

I have made baskets from slices of trees. I will hunt down a picture.

Cheers Katie, I did a basket not too long ago, on similar lines to this one, not on a wood slice though, I just have to get round pattern now to fit the wood, the one I have is for a square  🙂
