TAIrving Posted March 27, 2021 Report Posted March 27, 2021 I have been having fun learning my new hobby and learning about different types of wood. My latest involves Monkeypod and a intricate fretwork pattern. The Monkeypod is ¼” and I was using a Pegas #3MGT blade when a small piece broke. So I write that one up to experience. The Monkeypod is a pretty wood but It seems to be somewhat lighter and more brittle than other woods I have tried and it tends to have more fuzzies than most. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted March 27, 2021 Report Posted March 27, 2021 Glue the piece back in,,, little sanding and no one will be the wizer... That is a big project! OCtoolguy 1 Quote
FrankEV Posted March 27, 2021 Report Posted March 27, 2021 Yep...I ditto what Scrappile said. Use e piece of painters tape on the back to hold it in place while the glue dries. a large piece like that is an easy fix...it is the tiny pieces that are hard to deal with. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
TAIrving Posted March 27, 2021 Author Report Posted March 27, 2021 Thanks for the tips. The glue is drying as I write this. I will be very careful for the remainder of this project and am not likely to choose Monkeypod for future fretwork projects. FrankEV 1 Quote
bandaideman Posted March 28, 2021 Report Posted March 28, 2021 as they say you can be taught. I have never seen Monkeypod but will think twice before using. Thank you Quote

Norm Fengstad Posted March 28, 2021 Report Posted March 28, 2021 blew out a whole section last night, it fell on the floor and broke into many pieces . I said darn it ( something like that)and went to bed Quote
Tom-in-Ashland Posted March 29, 2021 Report Posted March 29, 2021 Is that a Fiona Kingdon pattern? I think it will be very fragile in just about any solid wood at 1/4" thick. 1/2" might be OK but 3/4" would be best in my opinion. Quote

And you may very well be right. I also contributed to the breakage by the way I cut that section. But I was feeling quite frustrated at the moment. Question for anyone: What would be a good wood for doing fretwork like this in 1/4"? Quote
