crupiea
I am always obsessing over my finishes. My usual projects are bb and spray painted. Have been sanding and spraying 3 coats lately and its a decent finish. Been figuring the sanding between coats and what grits and what not. Got all fired up with some 600 grit at harbor freight for cheap but the coats were just too soft to work with when done. 320 seems about right. What i usually do is sand, then rub it off on my tee shirt then with my hand until no more dust is on the piece. Got to thinking there has to be a better way. Looked online and DIY tack cloth is just some spray glue on a paper towel and let it dry for about 4 minutes. Tried it today with my old method and then the new cloth and was shocked at home much more it picked up. Just sprayed another coat on my practice pieces so will see how they compare. So far this seems like a great idea and of course, cheap like me. OCtoolguy, TexasDIY, Joe W. and 3 others 3 2
Rockytime
Thanks for the tip. I just painted a frame. I'll give it a try. How long do you wait between coats before sanding? OCtoolguy

How long do you wait between coats before sanding? For spray paint at least 24 hours if not 48. Look at the can as they are different sometimes. I'm trying to envision using a paper towel with spray glue and I must admit, it sort of eludes me. I'll have to give it a try. Doesn't the paper towel have a lot of lint to it? crupiea

Doesnt have to be a super thick coat, just a regular amount of spray, not soaking wet but just covered. It does have lint but it seems to stay put with the glue. I suppose now you have given me something else to obsess over, lol OCtoolguy
Rockytime
I used it yesterday. Just a quick light spray. I did leave it dry for more than five minute as I was preoccupied doing something else. I used it on something I sprayed with lacquer. Spray, let dry, sand, lint cloth, spray, let dry, sand, lint cloth, spray, let dry, viola, beautiful finish. Paper towel and spray glue worked beautifully! CSull
So, regular paper towel or the blue shop paper towel? I use the blue a lot, I'll give it a try, thanks for the tip! OCtoolguy
preprius
Always tacky lasts forever. A sandpaper eraser. Thr rubber stick you use to clear clogged sandpaper. This works well rubbing over the wood after sanding. Even with 400 and 600 grit. Just rinse with water and let dry for next time. CSull
Well I gave this a try on the blue shop towels and it does a great job at a less price than tack cloths. Thanks. crupiea and OCtoolguy 1
