trackman Posted April 9, 2021 Report Posted April 9, 2021 Making a project out of cedar that is going to be out in the weather. What is a good finish to use so the cedar doesn’t turn gray? OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Denny Knappen Posted April 9, 2021 Report Posted April 9, 2021 I use Spar Varnish. As used on wood boats for years. Dan, flarud and OCtoolguy 3 Quote
OCtoolguy Posted April 9, 2021 Report Posted April 9, 2021 You might also look into Behr finishes. I made a gate for my daughter's home and finished it with Behr clear and it has lasted quite well. Also, look at deck finishes. There is one, I think it may be Johnson's that works well. tomsteve 1 Quote
trackman Posted April 9, 2021 Author Report Posted April 9, 2021 Thanks years ago I did use spar varnish on a outside sign. Thanks for getting the cobwebs out of my old brain lol. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
tomsteve Posted April 14, 2021 Report Posted April 14, 2021 2 products that are superior to oil based exterior finishes: 1- general finish 450 2- sherwin williams A100 non tinted. this is an exterior house paint base. non tinted, it dries clear. house paints hold up for years and years. oil based need maintenance in a couple of years.
