Popular Post CSull
I finally got this done, or I should say as far as I can go. I used all hardwoods, wenge-cherry-walnut-tiger wood, and was really challenged. I think intarsia must be a foreign word that means taking good square and flat wood, cutting into odd shapes and then trying to piece it together in a pattern! Anyway I learned A LOT Ceric ME, namunolie, Fish and 19 others
lawson56
You did an Awesome job!!Love the wood choices. I did a few Intarsa pieces a few years back. A Dragon's head and Wolf head. Really enjoyed it. It does try ones patience.

Rolf
I like your wood choices! Great design, who's pattern? Your fit between pieces is really good not so easy considering the woods that you used. To practice shaping I did a segmentation of a piece (in cheap pine) so I did not have to worry about fit. And then practiced shaping. That ended up with me installing a dust collection system. amazingkevin
CSull
It is a Judy Roberts pattern. The fit was tough and it seemed to magically change each time I dry assembled it. And yes, a few pieces got cut twice! amazingkevin
Fish
Nice work. Nice choice in wood too.
ben2008
Really very nice for your 1st try. Looks like you took all the expert advice you accumulated from being on SSV. Also looks like you took your time fitting the pieces together. I have been doing Intarsia for over 30 years and it is still quite a challenge to get all the pieces to fit nicely. I have done many of Judy Gale Robert's patterns. I have found that using the smallest blade with the most teeth works the best for me. I generally use a 2/0 blade except for very dense wood. Then I use the next smallest blade that works. I probably go through more blades than others who would us bigger blades. However, I don't have to remake any pieces either. I just slow down and take my time and stay on the line.
