BB Plywood

Today I visited Paxton Hardwood. I purchased two 3mm 5X5 sheets of prefinished BB. I have been using quite a bit of it. Cuts beautifully and I don't have to finish it in any way. My point is the cost. It was $35 ea. Price was fine for me. I then inquired about the price of standard Russian Baltic Birch. It is $25 per sheet. That is what I paid perhaps, three months ago. It must be just hardwoods that are going up in price.

Not in my area - Plywood has gone from $35 for one sided finished 3/4" to $52 and still rising. I saw yesterday some went for $62 a sheet!

Poplar and pine from my lumber yard supplier hasn't gone up yet and they're price for 3/4" is $36. I'm so glad I don't have to go to HD or Lo anymore for wood!

I haven't purchased any lumber yet this year. Late last year ( Between Christmas and New Years ) I purchased 120bdf of Poplar and 20 sheets of 3mm BBply 5x5 sheets. I can't remember how much the Poplar was now.. but the BBply had gone up from the previous time I purchased it which was just under $13 a sheet.. the new price was just under $16 a sheet. I don't make a lot of large projects from BBply ( mostly ornaments ) so those 20 sheets should last me until this fall.. hoping prices stabilize some by then..

I had planned to purchase some 1" 5x5 BBply to use on my CNC for signs.. However when I went to look up the pricing the website from my local supplier says "Call for pricing" this tells me they have been raising the prices.. I got busy with other things and the CNC is pretty much idle the last few weeks so I'm thinking about gluing up several panels myself from a large amount of sun faded stained Maple that I have.. the wood is nice wood but looks horrible for most pieces unless it's a rustic piece or something.. Most my CNC stuff is sealed and painted so for the most part the wood doesn't have to be pretty, LOL I got that Maple ( probably 200 bdf. ) given to me and I thought maybe I'd get lucky and could plane it down to some good wood.. as it's 1-1/2 inch thick.. but it seems to be stained pretty much all the way through.

The place I get my BB from hasn't had much of a price increase. Other sheet good, pine, oak, poplar and others have really taken on in price. A year ago I could get 4x8x3/4 sanded ply for $32 and some change. Not it is almost $65 for the same thing. Hoping these priced drop, I need to make some things for the shop, but at these prices it has been put on hold.

I was going to say the same but Paul beat me to it.

😆don't be to quick to agree with me... I rarely know what the heck I am talking about..😅  But this time I have been following the discussion on another none scroll saw forum and my neighbor who is building an addition to his house and what he has experienced with lumber costs...

I need to haul my trailer load of scrap in.. should take my van on a one way drive to it's final destination too, LOL Problem is I don't have a replacement for it yet. Been a great van, too bad the rust has taken its toll on it. Bought it 12 years ago for $2800 to haul the family around, now the kids are grown I don't really need a minivan anymore but I may end up buying another.. Nice to be able to fold the seats down into the floor and haul 4 x 8 sheets of ply or 10ft. boards etc.. and not have any of it get wet if it's raining or snowing. Dang my old Dodge pick-up can't even haul as much as the box is only a 6.5 ft box. Now days trucks with a 8 ft. bed are hard to find.  Anyway the old van.. never did anything to it other than normal maintenance. Pushing 300,000 miles.. I've put 150,000 on it myself. Maybe if scrap is high enough I could get another van, 😂

I went to Paxton last week and 5X5' 1/8" is $25. My pre-finished 5X5' 1/8" was $35.00 per sheet. You got a bargain.

Les, don't you use a lot of that underlayment stuff too? What does it cost for a 4 x 8 sheet? It's bit over 1/8" isn't it?

I use the 3/16 underlayment for things that aren't really important to me. I use it for clock dials and backers. I also use it as an underboard when I'm cutting 1/8" BB with Pegas blades as the blades are aggressive. Gives a bit better control. I have not purchased and don't remember what I paid but I just checked online with Home Depot and it is now $17.95 for 8X10.

I just purchesed a 4X8 underlamement from HD about 3 weeks ago and the regular proice dthen was $21 but it had a damaged area in lthe center so I got a 50% discount. I don't know what it is now. I will have to check today when I go to paxton wood I go right past it.

I have never seen plywood in a 8 X 10 sheet How do you haul it? Or do they cut it for you?
