Popular Post Rockytime
This was fun to cut. I must be the slowest scroller in the world. I spent 15 hours and 36 minutes on the saw. Probably another 5 hours changing blade from hole to hole and drilling 786 holes. The image is 10-1/2 X 8. Used 27 2/0 Super Pike blades and cut 3mm Pre-finished BB. wombatie
It is not a race so it does not matter how long it takes, it"s what it looks like when it's finished and this is awesome. Definitely time well spent. Marg flarud, ChelCass, LarryEA and 3 others

Scrappile
You really did a beautiful job on that piece... one of those pictures you can sit back, look at it, and wish you were there... Great job.... I may have to look up that pattern... Rockytime

Bill WIlson
Looks great, nice job. I'm particularly drawn to patterns for those kinds of rustic scenes. Someday soon, I hope to have more time to devote to cutting them. Rockytime
FrankEV
Very well done. IMHO, 15-20 hours for over 700 holes is not slow at all. That is about 5 or more cutting days for me as I only can cut for about 3 hours at one time or my control begins to go south. I will interupt cutting with frame making, painting and finishing to keep my sanity. I go through a lot of 2/0 spirals when cutting a many hole pattern like that one. Most break because I kink them while threading. Rockytime
Frank Pellow
Looks good! I'm going to take a look at Russ Beard's patterns and see if there is one that I would like to purchase. I don't think you are slow. That's about how long it would take me for a pattern of that size with that many holes. The Super Pike blades also break easily and I have the same problem of bending the blades and kinking them. FrankEV

Never heard of that blade... but if they break that easily,,, maybe I would find a different brand... Like you, I can only scroll for relativity short periods anymore... but that is okay,, at least I can still scroll..

Like you, I can only scroll for relativity short periods anymore... but that is okay,, at least I can still scroll.. The Super Pike blades are really a metal cutting blade. The 2/0 has 42 teeth per inch. I cut three milliammeter pre-finished BB without using a back up board underneath. That bottom piece would just be a waste. The blades allow me to cut very fine detail. I can also run the saw a little faster. For fretwork they are my go to blade. Blades are the cheapest part of the hobby. ben2008
Excellent scrolling. I really like that pattern. The results are beautiful. I can only scroll about 2/3 hours anymore before my eyes start to blur. I usually just quit for the day and start again the next day. Sometimes I don't get back to it for days as I get sidetracked with something else. It eventually gets done. I really never know how long, how many holes, or blades it takes. Also, I really don't do a lot of fretwork. I'm mostly into Intarsia and there really isnt that many holes to drill. I rarely break any blades when I do Intarsia either. I'm in awe of you folks that can sit there and drill hundreds of holes and constantly keep threading those little blades like a 2/0 through those tiny little holes. I just don't have the patience for that. But I sure like to see the finished pieces. Some are really beautiful. I'm working on a clock right now that has many holes. But I can use a 1/16" drill bit or larger if i choose for most of the holes. That makes it's much easier for me to see and cut. OzarkSawdust
Awesome piece Les!! Maybe some day I'll try one of those... I've got to learn to slow down on fretwork. I get to cutting and keep trying to go faster because I want to see the finished work. Then it happens...a slip...lol. You created a beautiful piece, and I love the way it looks framed.
