Popular Post Scrappile Posted May 9, 2021 Popular Post Report Posted May 9, 2021 (edited) I have done some pretty intricate patterns over time, but I have to say this one was one that really tested me... I failed in a couple minor areas,,, but I will not point them out.... The hair, oh that hair, was very tense,, around the ear. Didn't help that the last BB I purchased was not very good quality... Almost didn't buy it but I was out, so thought some is better than none.. This is a Charles Dearing pattern. Just off the saw... will have to make a frame and put finish on it... A present for my son.. Edited May 9, 2021 by Scrappile jollyred, don watson, danny and 16 others 17 2 Quote

spirithorse Posted May 10, 2021 Report Posted May 10, 2021 Fantastic work, Paul! I'm curious about what type of finish you put on portraits like this? God Bless! Spirithorse Scrappile 1 Quote

God Bless! Spirithorse I always wait a day or two to apply finish because I use MS to remove the pattern... Then I sand it a little and hit it with about 3 - coats of Deft Clear Lacquer. Usually satin or simi-gloss. spirithorse and danny 1 1 Quote

I just ordered and received that pattern It's a "got to cut" pattern! I see where the eyebrow and ear can be challenging but which of Charles Dearing's patterns are not. Don't usually cut them as they are large. I'm enlarging by 165% making the pattern approximately 9-1/2" X 11-1/4". I hate cutting large pieces as when necessary to swing the BB I interfere with it as I sit very close to the saw. Usually I limit myself to a 10X13 inch piece. I'll give it a whirl. I'm sure I lose more pieces than you did. Quote
wombatie Posted May 10, 2021 Report Posted May 10, 2021 That is some very fragile work, you did an excellent job. Marg Scrappile 1 Quote

ben2008 Posted May 11, 2021 Report Posted May 11, 2021 (edited) You captured him perfectly. We really like it. What size blade did you use? Edited May 11, 2021 by ben2008 Scrappile 1 Quote
Charlie E Posted May 11, 2021 Report Posted May 11, 2021 Very lifelike pattern and superb job of cutting. Not my favorite political figure but different opinions make the world go round. I like a quote I saw recently, "I don't mind a difference of opinion. I do mind hate." Great job. danny, Scrappile, Dave Monk and 1 other 3 1 Quote

I mostly used a #1 Flying Dutchman Penquin Silver (FD-PS). Normally I would is the Penquin Silver Reverse (FD-PSR) but I was out of them. ben2008 1 Quote
