Blades breaking

I’ve been having problems with my blades breaking on my Hegner. Everyone breaks in the same place. The photo shows where it is breaking, that’s the top 1/2” of the blade. Not sure what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

What clamp are you using at the top.... If it is the standard clamp, the clamp is not suppose to be set tight in the holder... The knob should be backed off a little so the clamp "floats" in the clamp holder.... If you have the "Quik Clamp" it should be held tight in the clamp holder...  Also the tension on a Hegner is important,,,, maybe a little more tension may help.... I had this same problem when I got my Hegner.... I called Advance Machinery several times for advice.... they gave suggestions, and all of a sudden things started working much better... I still probably break more blades on the Hegner than my other saw... It seems to me when a blade is getting dull and needs changing it will break, as opposed to the other saw, it just keeps trying to cut.. but does not break.  Maybe it is because of the addition of a little more tension on the Hegner..

Had the Hegner several years now and I still jump when a blade brakes...

I have had my Hegner for 13 years and like Paul was breaking to many blades at the beginning.   Tension seems to be critical with these saws.  You don't say how long you have been using your saw but for me there was a learning curve.  I would suggest experiment with your blade tension first and see if that helps.  I set my tension quite high on my saw.  Also if you are breaking the same brand or size blades maybe switch to another size or brand.   On the most part I like Pegas Modified Geometry blades as they work well in my saw.   It could be as simple as a bad batch of blades.  Good luck!

I verey rarely break a blade on my Hefner. The only ones I ever break are 2/0. They only break because I'm careless and bend the blade or eventually the blade will break after long use. I believe the blade eventually breaks because of heat .

Lower the tension and run at a slower speed.

On my Pegas, the speed knob tends to increase the speed all by itself over a couple hours of cutting.  If I'm not paying attention, as the speed increases, the blads will start to break just like what yours is doing.

Too much tension is also a major culpret.  Back it down so you only need a light press on the lever to lock the tension after clamping the blade.

I tend to use small blades and if I don't kink the blade when threading, they will last a long time.  But when the speed increases or the tension is too high, they will break after only a few cuts.

Frank it appears you are putting a Pegas and a Hegner in the same bag.  As I'm sure you Know they are not of the same design.   I am not the only one that tunes the blade tension higher on Hegner saws, maybe some others will chime in.   I will agree that higher speed combined with a fast feed rate will create more friction and heat which will be detrimental to real small blades.
