Tbow388
How do you all attach your patterns? I usually painters tape my wood, spray the back of my pattern with adhesive and attach. The problem I am having is that often times during fretwork pieces of my pattern likes to come off. I cant get it to stick really good. What are your tips and tricks? rjweb
I do it the same way, but I use 3M 45 spray adhesive on the back of pattern, never seem to have a problem, RJ

Someone on here had said spray the back of the pattern wait till the spray gets tacky then place it on the blank wood. I rub the pattern down real good then wait 5 or 10 mins before cutting. So this is what I do now and I haven’t had that problem since.
Denny Knappen
I print my patterns on full sheet labels. Extremely sticky, so I also use painters tape. danny
WayneMahler
I use painters tape then spray the back of the pattern with 3M-77. Don't have any problems. I do believe the 45 is less money but have never use it.
ben2008
I use shelf liner. I make sure the wood is free of saw dust. I use a tack rag and clean it first before applying the shelf liner. Any little saw dust will cause the liner to not stick to the wood or in your case, tape. Then I spray the back of the pattern with 3M 45 and apply it to the shelf liner. When you're done the shelf liner peels right off with no mess. Works very good for me.
grandpuppies
Painters tape, white glue, let it dry over night, no problems, easy removal. Occasionally if there is a real narrow space between cut areas it may want to lift but a small piece of scotch tape holds well. I always am at least a day ahead or more of what I want to cut. Sometimes when I am getting tired at the saw I'll stop and spend a while setting up my next cuts. I have finally learned to stop a project when I'm getting tired. I use to push it but I finally put it together that that was why I'd run into trouble.
JAC1961
I use cheap, clear shelf paper (16 rolls shipped to the local Dollar Tree store for $17 + change) and then 3M Super 77 spray adhesive. For small projects use blue painters tape.
trackman
Shelf liner, 3M 77 sprayed on the liner than put pattern on. This way no glue on your fingers. Ten years no problem. If a small project I’ll use blue painters tape an glue same way.
crupiea
I use a light coat of spray glue and wait 3-4 minutes. This is with super 77 or the blue loctite glue. It should be barely tacky. Too tacky and it sticks too firm and is hard to remove. Takes some practice to get it just right. This way it stays on long enough to cut and comes right off easily. lawson56
Well I guess I'm the oddball, I use carbon paper and trace mine on. I tape my paper down on either side put the carbon paper under, and trace. saves a lot on ink and my pattern last's a long time. It may take a little longer to do it this way, but it's how I've always done it. Tbow388
Roberta Moreton
I use clear shelf liner and full sheet labels. When I have to use paper and spray, I wait a couple of minutes, attach and smooth down with an old credit card.
stoney
I generally use green painters tape and 3M 77 and then firmly press pattern with a 1" X 4" wide rubber roller. It seems like using the roller insures better adhesion. Works for me. Tbow388
WolfmoonCT
blue painters tape, spray the back of the pattern with 3M-77 and let the pattern tack up for about 30 seconds.. put it on and press it down good. Works like a champ. Rockytime
TAIrving
I usually use full sheet labels on top of clear shelf liner (for larger patterns) or blue painters tape (for smaller patterns). This usually works well and is easy enough to remove after the cutting is done. But I am having a problem with the pattern lifting on a project I am currently working. I think I know what I did wrong. I sanded the wood before applying the pattern but I think I neglected to use a tack cloth to remove the sawdust before applying the shelf liner. Lesson learned. ike
I spray the wood with a light coat of spray glue of your choice and very seldom I have any problems with the pattern coming off. when the project is cut i take a rag dampened with mineral spirits and wipe the pattern and the pattern usually almost falls off I then use the same rag and wipe down the wood. i do a lot of fretwork and getting the pattern off is a big problem when i apply the glue to the pattern. I let the project dry for a couple of hours and you can't see where you has any glue on it.. doing fine fretwork the painters tape is a real pain to remove. I have found that this method is a lot more economical and quicker I know in some states mineral spirits are outlawed because of cancer. I don't worry about it at 82 I am playing on the back 9. But, like others, shelf liner and spray adheasive. Shelf Liner from Walmart is a lot cheaper than Painters tape. The adheasive on painters tape is very week and any little dust will prevent it from sticking well. I personally do not like wetting the wood with MS to get a pattern off. Takes some time to dry and I find it interferes wuth the finishing process. Edited June 15, 2021 by FrankEV JAC1961

Are the PDF's saved with the editable box clicked in the preferences? Why not a JPG? I like my attachments to be high quality so most of mine are TIF's. I caught your funny right off the bat. scrollerpete
Same technique spray the back of the pattern and apply to wood but here is the trick use packing tape on top of the pattern and no more worry about the patterns coming loose. MrsN
I am an odd one. I use painters tape on the wood, then a glue stick (think kids crafts) to glue the pattern to the tape. I don't like having to go outside to spray glue because of the fumes.
redwine
I use the same method as most, that is shelf liner on a clean, dustless board and spray the back of the pattern using 3m-77 which works fine for myself and for small projects, blue painters tape and than the above for attaching the pattern. The one problem that I have with larger projects is lining up the pattern with the wood and just as I go to put the pattern down its just like it is magnetized and is suddenly drawn down and not where I want it! Trackman, you have just given me the idea that will work, spray the liner or the tape than place the pattern and that should do away with any problem of placing the pattern where it should go and not where it isn't supposed to be!
