Time for a walk

Cut this over the spring, but just  now posting it.  I  have decided I HATE cutting letters out like that.  It's soo much harder to cut them I had to tape a playing card down to the table to keep the opening tight so the letters wouldn't just fall through.  Made with curly maple and some walnut.

Yeah, cutting letters is hard depending on the font, size, etc. - BUT - the extra time spent getting them right pays off in an impressive piece - LIKE YOURS.  GOOD JOB!!!

That’s great. Looked at the first picture and thought he must be putting a hook in the center of the paw. Looked further at the second picture and thought what an awesome cool idea. Well done.

Your playing card idea to create a zero clearance for your letters, was a pretty good one. I bought a saw from Scrappile about 4 years ago and he had made a 1/4 inch, smooth table covering, for lack of another word, and left an inch circle cut into it when he cut a piece with a small hole, just big enough to put his blades through and that created a zero clearance. I have to recut a piece every six months to keep the hole small

I've thought about trying to make a plexi table covering for zero clearance.. But I don't really cut out things to keep that would need it. So the playing card worked for me.

I  have used the same idea, I have even just put painters tape over the hole for short term use. Cards work well. I just thought if you were going to the fret work type pattern I would send you this idea

That sure looks good.  The choice of woods was right on.  Cutting small letters is a real challenge.

I don’t have a cast iron table top so I can’t use magnetic anything. What I do is buy those clear plastic cutting boards from the dollar store they come in a two pack and are very smooth on one side. Cut it to fit the whole table top then change that out every so often.

I'm with you 100%, I hate cutting loose block fonts.

One trick is to drill a blade hole near the first. letter.  Cut the letter and before it even has a chance to get away, use a piece of blue tape to keep it in the cut out.  Cut over to the next letter and do the same, etc.  After the last letter is cut and taped into place, the entire panel can be removed from the saw and all the letters will stay with it until you need to use them. Of course you need to cut out the center of "o's" and others first.

Great work! I should probably show my wife, but I'm not sure I want to deal with the little letters.
