Popular Post Dave Monk
I used a cardinal pattern by Kathy Wise and added the Dogwood. Used bloodwood, red oak, cedar, walnut, aspen, yellow heart, canary and poplar. My client loved it. preprius
This is beautiful. Excellent bird breast. The grain on the breast just make you feel the roundness of a real bird. Dave Monk

I didn't notice until after I was done that the inside of the top and bottom were the same except I turned them opposite directions. I wished I would have thought about it before it was done. It helps me a lot to look at other peoples work who are much better than I so I can compare it to mine and see where I need to improve. When I saw you had posted another of your first class projects, I got really excited and once more I was not let down. This is one of the most beautiful and meaningful boxes I have ever have the pleasure to see. The last photo sort of made my heart stop for a moment, as I read the inlay inscription. You are indeed a wood artist. Dick heppnerguy

Some people just have better skill levels and abilities then others. I do find that I have been doing better then before as all I wanted to do was cut a pattern and then I would get in a hurry to finish it as I got close to the end. I recently have slowed way down and I am trying to do a better job cutting as well as putting more effort on my finishing too. I still do not take the time needed to perfect any particular skills but only tackle the project at hand. I have wanted to make patterns, especially wood portrait patterns for years. I have made some and I was pretty happy with the ones I did but I still have not taken time to really understand them well. Each time I do try one, it is, starting over from the beginning instead of learning to do the steps automatically. Just me I guess. In this way, I am my own worse enemy. One can not develop a skill by wishing to do so. Dick heppnerguy

Last week I was trying to do something in Inkscape that I used to do quite often but no way could I remember. As the saying goes.........if you done use it you loose it. Maybe age has something to do with it.
