new2woodwrk
Just went to my supplier, all wood in his mill went up minimum $.50 and as much as $1.00 per bd ft. Poplar is now costing me $3.50 bd ft or $51 per 16'x10" board. Insanity - thanks to you know who! Anyway, basswood however did manage to go down $.10 a bd ft Looks like I'll be trying out Grandis for some of our projects - it is not expected to increase in price in fact is expected to decrease slightly. Thanks in advance for reading OCtoolguy and lawson56
Denny Knappen
I just ordered from Ocooch Hardwoods. I needed the wood and didn't check the prices. new2woodwrk and OCtoolguy
Frank Pellow
I was born and raised in a lumber town. I hope the prices for lumber continue to rise until they reach a reasonable level and stay there. Where reasonable allows towns such as mine to prosper rather than to suffer from the boom and bust economy that the town has endured for over 100 years. ben2008, OCtoolguy and new2woodwrk 1
Jim McDonald
Last week, I glanced at a sheet of plywood, can't remember the thickness, but it was $92 and change! Probably 1/2", but may have been what passes for 3/4" now. I don't use anything like that, but my head hurts just thinking about folks trying to build a cabinet carcass. (Or, God forbid, a whole kitchen of cabinets.) OCtoolguy and new2woodwrk

I have on my "to-do" list making a large cabinet for my wife's cake making equipment, but decided to wait until (hopefully) the price increasing bubble bursts. lawson56
I just went to my local lumber co, bought a couple sheets of 1/4 BB. A few mth's ago it was $12 a sheet, now $16.70 I was told the lumber prices are on their way down. I hope so. I need to build some back steps. new2woodwrk and OCtoolguy
daveww1
I went to Lowes to get a sheet of 3/4" birch plywood, last week it was about $76.00. I got it for $65.00 on Sunday so it does look like some prices are coming down. OCtoolguy, new2woodwrk and lawson56 2
Be_O_Be
We planned a kitchen remodel for April of 2020 & the way things went last year it was never started. Fortunately we purchased cabinets & 90% of the material in March of 2020 and missed the majority of the price hikes. Prices were moving up and I'm glad I bought and stored the material. We started the remodel April of this year and the few times I had to purchase 2x4x8' lumber from Lowes I found it cheaper to buy a 2x8x10' ,$4.00 cheaper, & rip it in half than 2- 2x4"s@ $9.00 each. The two times I did this the price tag scanned higher at the register than the posted price on the rack, once almost $5.00 a board more. They did give me the posted price but I wondered how many times this happened and the customer didn't catch it. lawson56 and OCtoolguy

WolfmoonCT
News article headline I saw said prices were down 68%.. I haven't needed any new lumber, so I'm not sure. Be_O_Be and OCtoolguy

Interesting - this (price difference) has happened to me twice in the past couple months, also at Lowes. They made it right, but now I'm looking closer at everything I buy there and elsewhere. We have sawmills in the area, going full steam with construction grade spruce, quality lumber gets shipped out of the country, the rest goes to British Columbia and none to our local lumber yards here as our Rona and Pineland get their supply from British Columbia. I wonder what is with that! Frank Pellow, Be_O_Be and OCtoolguy 2

Certainly, not enough of the money gets to the workers. But, some does and I can tell you that there is now full employment at (mostly) decent wages in the mills and the forests in and near my hometown. ben2008
Just checked my local Home Depot online today. I was looking for some poplar. I checked the price of a 1" X 10". This is what I found. 1" by 10" x 8' Poplar S4S 2-pack $139.00 That's about $8.69 a lineal foot. If you buy just one board it is over $9.00 a lineal foot. Outrageous. It's going to have to come down a lot before I pay that. I'm glad I had been buying and stocking up some wood prior to these crazy prices we see now.
