My Weekend Project

I finally got my hands on some quality 1/4 inch BB and wanted to try stack cutting. This is a Steve Good pattern and was cut with #3 MGT. I finished them with natural and red pine Minwax followed by 4 coats of clear gloss with light 300 grit sanding between coats. I wanted to keep the thickness to a minimum so the backer board is actually heavy card stock that has been lightly painted (which seem to work fine). Hope you enjoy.

I too like the black background as it is easier to see the get cutting.

But I do like the pine stained top.  You say "pine Minwax"  Is that the puritan pine or the Ipswich Pine.  I have a project that I am working on now and I want to stain and this colour would be perfect.

The black IMO is much easier to see - I really couldn't make out the image in the red but the black really Popped for me

I went to the shop to be sure and it turns out the stain is Minwax Red Oak 215. I agree the black background does stand out with the lighter finish. Just wanted to make them different. I've thought about removing the red backer and going with a much lighter color to give it more contrast. Maybe that would work better.
