TAIrving
I am a top-feeder (Pegas). After reading so many posts about Hegners and how much those who own them love them, I became curious and in a moment of weakness, bid on one on eBay (a ridiculously low price i thought, but it is an old 14" single speed) and I won the auction. So, the question: can one do top feeding with a Hegner. Look at the pictures below before you answer. I put the quick release clamp on the bottom and the standard clamp on top. It seems to work although it is quite awkward, at least for a right-handed person. You have to hold down the arm with your right hand and then feed the blade and tighten the clamp with your left hand. Has anyone else tried this? Scrappile
Ha, ha,, ha, I have owned a DeWalt, Excalubur, Seyco and Hegner and I could/can not top feed on any of them... I need a video of someone feeding a 2/0 straight or spiral, or a 3/0 spiral blade, down through a #70 drilled hole in fret work.. I do it by removing the blade from both top and bottom clamps.... hand feeding the blade through the little hole in the wood and hole in the table, then clamping the blade in both clamps... Is that how it is done? Is that called "top feeding". I can't answer your question,,, I can not top feed on any scroll saw (for my kind of scrolling)... I am too much of a clotz I guess. You will have to move the anvil screw to the other side. Reverse both screws. Jim Finn

I use 2/o lades all the time and I only top feed , and no problems with #70 drill.in my Excalber OCtoolguy
Dave Monk
I'm a top feeder on my Pegas but a bottom feeder on my Hegner. Too awkward for me to try to hold down the top arm and get the blade correctly in the clamp. OCtoolguy and danny 1
stoney
The only way you could top feed a Hegner effectively would be with an anvil or some other device to hold the upper arm down. OCtoolguy and danny 1
xocd
I am a new Hegner owner (eBay). I have been doing what I saw on a couple of youtube videos which I think of as "out-feeding", i.e., feeding outside the saw: take out the bottom holder with the blade in it, while leaving the top holder on the saw; with the blade, holder and piece outside of the saw, feed the blade from below; with the blade vertical, slide the blade, piece and holder into the saw via the slot on the table; push the lower holder in position; engage the blade to the top holder It's faster than it sounds. I am guessing that the table slot was included just for that purpose. One could follow the same process on the Jet scroll saw. (Edit) Found a video (warning, it's in German but the process is clear): https://youtu.be/yX46Cgqh_lw?t=475 xocd Edited August 16, 2021 by xocd OCtoolguy
Jim Finn
I have put the quick clamp on the bottom, also, and it seemed to work. I do not do fretwork, I do inlay. For inlay, feeding is not what I need to do so often , so I went back to bottom feeding.
