OCtoolguy Posted September 10, 2021 Report Share Posted September 10, 2021 I picked up another saw yesterday. It's a Hegner Multimax 18. $40. Funny thing is it's a single speed but late enough in mfgr that it has the front tension release arm. It's been well used but runs smooth. Not sure what speed though. Seems pretty fast. Anybody here know anything about this saw? It has the same switch box like the variable speed saws but with just the on-off switch. It would be nice to make it a variable speed saw. I think the best people to ask about converting it to VS would be the fine folks at Henger. I'm sure someone here probably knows as well but I'm not that person, LOL Sounds like a heck of a deal though for $40. Thanks Kevin, I did talk to Wolfgang about it and he said it would not be possible. But, I won't take no for an answer until I have done all the due diligence of talking to folks. He said I'd have to change the motor and add all the electronics. That just doesn't seem right but who am I to argue? I'd rather just toss it out there to see if that is really true. I'm going to clean it up and sell it more than likely. I don't have room for 3 saws much less 4. But, it's hard to pass up a deal. If you want variable speeds, a Variable Frequency Drive is needed for the type of motor used; they can be spendy and aren't easy to DIY. One could have a small stack of pulleys to swap in and out to change the speed. Even at a single speed, that $40 saw is a steal!! I wish stuff would pop up like that around here....... Ray if it runs way too fast I've read on another forum that if you put the blades in backwards it'll cut a lot slower..
