EX 21 blade slipping out.

Hi everyone, Just got back to scrolling after a year off. My Ex21 was in storage for that long. I having a little problem. I have the new pegus blocks on there and they were working fine. After I.m scrolling for a minute or so the blade will pop out and the white lever pops open.  I'm also getting a banging noise on a higher speed which will last a couple minutes and then it just stops and is really quite. I don't see anything loose. I am on a cement floor in the garage. The noise comes and goes.  Any ideas out there. Might have too get a hold of Denny and finally order my new saw. Thanks, Ralph>

Hey Ralph, even Pegas blade clamps need maintenance. The tips of the thump screw need to be dressed with 220 grit sand paper. Here’s how I do it. I use a square piece of 3/8” wood about two or three inches square. Using a drill press, drill a hole in the center just smaller then the diameter of the threads of the thumb screw. You need to use a drill press to insure the hole is perpendicular. Then screw the thumb screw into the the hole in the wood blank insuring it screws in perpendicular. Screw it in till the the tip just barely protrudes The bottom of the wood. Place a small piece of 220 grit sand paper on your saw table and sand the bottom of the wood block. This will dress the tip of the thumb screw. You want it to be dull and flat. Or you can buy new tips from Denny.
as far as the noise, I can’t help you there. Chances are all the bearings need to be lubed. The grease in the bearings has probably dried out from sitting in a hot storage room for a year. Or, you can buy a new saw!

How old is the EX?  There were some issues and Ray offered free replacement parts if you would do the work.  Not too hard to do.   That is regarding noise.

On the blade slip, the top thumb screw to tighten is on the right.  Switch the bottom one to the left side.  Also, lightly sand or buff or de-grease your blades.  Switching the bottom made a big difference for me.  And change the tips regularly.

I have experienced this. I cleaned everything to remove the oil from the manufacturing process. I use denatured alcohol and it works well for me.

I always sane the end of the saw blade to get the oil off. I have authorities and can't tighten the  the thumb nut tight enough so I use a lever by Steve Good and snug the clamp. As for the noise I don't know.

Thanks dan, I did sand the tips a little and it did work for a while. Maybe I didn't sand them enough.

Thanks Terry. The bottom one never slips out, it's always the top one. Maybe I'll try a new set of tips.

Thanks William. I never sanded the blade tips. That might work too.

The set screw and thumb screw with swivel does wear out.  Sanding does help, but should be replaced after time.  I sell them as a set.  the thumb screw with swivel is in shipping and should be here this week.  The white lever also wears upon time.  If if flips up for no reason, time to replace.
