  • Hawk changed the title to New saw enroute *Update, Arrived**

My King arrived today. I was surprised to see it was bolted to plywood inside the box.  After unbolting and unpacking I gave it a few test runs, got the "feet" on it, clamped to my bench, not the best set up, I was rather surprised a the vibration, not near as smooth as my Delta. I am thinking at this point it was because I dont have it mounted to eliminate the vibration. At any rate I love the size of the table, larger than my Delta. I have a couple of weeks before I take it "on the road" in the RV. I plan to cut Mawbry"s Mill while RVing so I hope I can get the vibration under control.

I think once you read through the manual and make all the necessary adjustments it'll run a lot smoother.. Unless you did measure the distance from the table to the upper arm at the front and back and adjust the back knob until it is parallel to the table? Another adjustment after that is done is to loosen the motor bolts and adjust the aggressiveness of the cut.. if it's set to cut on a more aggressive cut it does ( at least mine did ) seem to have a bit more vibration.. If you've already did all this... then it maybe needed to be mounted down better.. Mine ran really bad straight out of the box.. but once I played around with tuning it and getting things really dialed in.. I think it'd run okay without clamped down.. Not great, just okay as in doable in a pinch kinda thing.. Straight out the box it would have fell off the table if I wasn't watching it, LOL

That's my plan for my next day off, start "tuning" it in. I think there's great potential in this saw, it just has to be adjusted

The Pegas chucks will help too. I've got 2 Excaliburs and I have to fiddle with them every once in a while. The saw that is really temperamental for my Hegner. It really needs a bag of sand on the leg braces.

I know some folks say there is less vibration with the Pegas chuck heads.. I never noticed that myself.. maybe it does on some saws that are not perfectly tuned? I'm not sure.. They are a little more user friendly.. BUT.. Not so much so as to go rush out to spend another $100.. Now, if you have the cash and want a spare back-up set.. buy them but keep the old parts as a back-up plan for when you need to order parts for the Pegas heads.. Yes they have parts that wear out besides the screws..

Congrats on the new saw, Chris. Hope it works out to be exactly what you need. The wife and I did the camping bit for a while. Really enjoyed it. Unfortunately jobs and the world started getting in the way and we had to give it up. Maybe when we fully retire we can pick it back up. I definitely would be going for a smaller camper. We had a 36-foot fifth wheel Forest River Cardinal. Excellent camper but just big and a lot of weight. I'm thinking a smaller motor coach... but that's 2/3 years down the road.

Let me know if you ever make it down around SE North Carolina. Have a 50 amp service and dump station you're welcome to use.

My wife & I full timed for 3 years after I retired. We had a 36 ft Hitchhiker with 4 slides and a Chevy cc Duramax/Allison. Since coming off the road we've had 2 motorhomes. Class A's. Their is nothing like that 5th wheel when it's parked and the slides opened. No more motorhomes for us.

We used to go mainly to one campground and camp seasonal every year / summers when the kids was little.. but we haven't been for probably 5 years now as just been too busy with getting kids moved into college and now out of college.. It's just been too busy to go, keep saying maybe next year... then things happen and we don't. Keep talking about selling the 30ft Prowler 5th wheel.. down sizing to a smaller 5th wheel with a slide out. Old Dodge is also starting to show its age too. At some point closer to retirement we've thought about buying a new truck and trailer.. I'm just not sure it's something I want to do.. I don't see us going full time.. also talked about buying a second home in the south and being snowbirds for part of the year. I'm kinda setting myself up for that.. since I have 4 scroll saws and dang near two of everything.. enough to make another shop at my second home, lol.  Got several years yet to decide so who knows.. camping might be illegal by then.. unless they get some electric trucks and some clean burning campfires, LOL😂

Had a motorhome before we had kids and outgrew it as it was just a small 20ft outfit.. we liked that for certain things and we like the 5th wheel for certain things.

The snowbird thing would be great. For us though, there's no place to go. Our year-round weather can't be beat.

You could always get a cabin in the middle of nowhere.. instead of being in the crowded city.. I live in the middle of nowhere somewhat.. when it's too quiet I can take a ride into the city and have enough of that after about 1 hour or less, and I'm more than ready to go back home, LOL

I'm surrounded by thousands of acres of farm field, just the way I like it. Can't see my neighbors..  We have a 35' Class A, up from a 5th wheel, really didn't like hooking and unhooking it.  Besides when traveling no pee stops every 30 minutes or so (lol)

But it's going to take some time to get the King to where I like it.

I am surrounded by hundreds of acres of wine vineyards and wineries... Hic!  Who could ask for more..I have a nice home and five acres... for sale for $1 million.... okay I will sell for somewhat less... but...

I have a RV travel trailer... Pee stops are only as far as the next wide spot I can stop at... run back into the trailer fill a cup,,, pour it out and continue on....  Not really I had some simple surgery that took care of the need so much..

That's what I did Kevin. I changed to the Pegas chuck, from Denny, fairly soon and kept all the original pieces. Have never needed them...but they are somewhere in a box LOL.

We also had a Cardinal at one time, but a 40 footer. It was a great 5th wheel! That was 3 RVs ago...lol. We just sold the last one, a 36 ft. Keystone Sprinter. I believe that's the best size if you're going to travel as you can get into state and national parks that you can't with 40 ft. We even looked into a 40-44 ft. toy hauler, I was going to build a wood shop in the "garage" , and travel around doing shows. But we love the Rio Grande Valley and we have a bunch of friends here. I do 12 shows a month during "season" from November through March and a few car shows extra. I figure 62-65 shows a year is enough!
