Well, I've jinxed myself! Dremel gives up the ghost!

After becoming a new member here this week and posting about possibly getting a new saw, my 1970s Dremel Moto-Shop 571-5 gave up the ghost this morning!  I was working on a project and all of a sudden it started making weird noises and then it stopped.  There was a hum coming from the motor.  I banged a little on the side and the blade worked a second or so and stopped again while still humming.  Doesn't appear to have a reset button anywhere.  Guess I'll get a little more serious this weekend about looking for a new saw.

Check the brushes. They are probably worn out and one of them jammed the armature. Not a hard fix if you can find them. Or make some. I'll bet that's what is wrong.

Ditto on what Ray said. I had one quit and contacted Dremel. They actually sent me a set for my Dremel model free of charge. I say I had one... that is until the wife claimed it as a nail file for the dogs. Bought me a new on and let her keep that one.

He's talking about a scroll saw.

Well,, they may do the same for their scroll saw... brushes are an expendable item...

I agree he is talking about a scroll saw but it is a Dremel. The bushings I had replaced were on a rotary tool but hopefully Dremel will be kind enough to send him bushings for his scroll saw as they were for sending me the bushings for the rotary tool. Sorry for the confusion.

I've been looking for schematics and parts for the 751-5 - can't find any on the internet.  Will have to breakdown and try to call them on Monday.  Thanks for all the suggestions.  BTW - I found a new, unused WEN 3921 for $70 - going to pick it up tomorrow.

Not sure whether you just made a typo here or in your search. It's a 571-5 and I found lots of parts diagrams for it. The brushes seem to be encased inside of a plastic housing that covers the motor and houses the electricals.

So far, so good!  Still getting used to it but it seems to work great!  Gonna try set up the pin-less blades this weekend - wish me luck!

Yes - I gave it away for free this afternoon as a "project" to the new owner.
