Oldmansbike
Is $40 too much for these baskets? Takes me around three hours to make one. Using scrap hardwoods and spray polyurethane to finish. I put them on marketplace 2 days ago and no takers yet. heppnerguy, Dan, OCtoolguy and 3 others
Scrappile
Very nice baskets.... The only way to answer your question is if they sell real quick,,,, maybe you didn't ask quite enough,, if hey don't sell, well for your area, maybe too much..In my area, people hoo and awe at hand made craft items and then move on.. All depends on the area... Maybe someone in your local will speak up.. heppnerguy and OCtoolguy
Joe W.
It reminds of those EXPENSIVE Long-ga-burger baskets that used to be the rage years ago. Maybe give them a fancy name and make up a story about how they're made, and up the price to $80 bucks and who knows, you might get swamped with orders But seriously, mighty fine looking work you have there. OCtoolguy
I just got an order for this one. I'm charging $100, including materials. She will also pay the shipping and handling. Custom order so it took me some time to draw up the plans. A lot of time to sand it. The cutting part is the fun. The rest is just work. dgman
Dale, I think you can easily charge $40 or more if you apply a finish. The finish will bring out the colors of the woods and enhance the look of the baskets. OCtoolguy

bandaideman
I have made same and similar baskets to them and did not sell any. I didn't try because my wife grabbed them for her stuff, If there is a empty space she will fill it and what she did not want she gave away OCtoolguy
timelett
I live near Shipshewana, lndiana, you don't see much of the hand made craftsmanship as in the past. But the baskets are really nice, good luck on the selling. OCtoolguy

Had lots of lookers but no sales Sorry your lookers wasn't buyers... I honestly think they are worth well over the $40 price.. but how to convince a potential customer to see that value is something different.. They are beautiful and well crafted. A couple things come to mind, Maybe the show just didn't have the right crowd to see the value in them.. In some weird way.. sometimes the potential customer sees a cheap price which in turn makes them feel as if there is no value in it.. even though they love it.. the price is too cheap so they don't want it.. I have some family and friends that value everything by the price they paid for something.. ( ie have a relative that will buy $600 sun glasses and then almost forget them ( I believe on purpose ) just so he can say loudly in the restaurant oh dang I almost left my $600 glasses on the table or stupid things like "I'm not walking through this sand in my $800 sandals.. ) Sometimes you have to play games with customers.. ie mark them at $80 but you're running a 50% off sale.. that is if you're happy to get the $40 for them. That large of a % off though may make the customer think that you can't sell them so you're desperate to move them.. maybe 20 - 30% is a better option I was just making an example.. Roberta Moreton
I have started to do a few craft shows. For fun, a way to remove some projects from my walls, shelves, etc. Small boxes, and bowls sell. Market place shoppers around here are looking for flea market junk. Oldmansbike
Thanks for your replies. I will keep trying to sell them. Craft shows around here are pretty much done for the year so I thought I would try Facebook market place. OCtoolguy
BadBob
$40 is not to much unless you are trying to sell to the flea market crowd. I have toy cars in my shop that sell for $35 they don't sell fast but they do sell. I only sell online and I found that if I make quality items and price them accordingly someone will buy them. At highr prices I sell less, work less, and have higher revenue. I don't have sales or discount anything except for customers that buy a lot. I have one customer that has spent about $600 in my shop this year on custom orders. This customer gets about a 20% discount but I don't tell them. dgman, Wichman and OCtoolguy
Roberta Moreton
I still price my work to sell for a fair (to me) price. I can take it home, I don’t mind. I enjoy doing the craft shows. It’s fun. If someone doesn’t want to pay for it, that’s ok! I’ll still have it next time. dgman, OCtoolguy and Wichman 2
