KelRob
Hi, I have a Delta 40-540 variable speed saw a purchased used. I know it uses pinned blades, my question is, can it use both pinned and pinless? Kelly OCtoolguy
Fedido
Welcome to the village! I don't know this answer myself, but am positive you will have an answer. Maybe @kmmcraftsor @OCtoolguy can answer this. OCtoolguy
OCtoolguy
I have no personal knowledge but most of these saws may tolerate an adapter.
kmmcrafts
I'm a little confused as I've never heard of one using pinned blades on the quickset ll blade chucks.. that saw should have a blade clamp that you use a lever to clamp the blade.. Photo is of one of the quickset style clamps.. does your saw have this style? If not them I'm betting someone had changed it over to a older style clamp... KelRob
Yes, that is the clamp style I have. Learn things everyday. I thought it was a pin style. Thanks for the information. OCtoolguy

Thanks for the information. One thing you might like to know about your clamps. If the closing handles are not bent the best way to keep them from bending is to not apply a lot of pressure closing them. Depending on blade size you first adjust the pressure with the knurled nut and then operate the handle. If you have a blade slippage issue clean the inside surfaces with alcohol and also clean oil from ends of blades. If you treat them right your clamps will work great for a long time. I had a Delta P20 with the same clamps and loved them. Good Luck Edited November 30, 2021 by stoney OCtoolguy

Thanks for the information. Here is something you might find useful... https://www.mikestools.com/ownersmanuals/DeltaScrollSaws/40-540.pdf Mikestools is the best place around to find obsolete parts for these old Delta saws.. I rebuilt one of these saws back in 2006.. many parts were no longer available but searching online for parts and part numbers I found Mikestools.. He was a great person to deal with.. I haven't dealt with him in about 6 years now. He had a obsolete part for my old Delta jointer that kept me from throwing it in the trash..
