Popular Post Oldmansbike Posted December 20, 2021 Popular Post Report Posted December 20, 2021 Tray made out of cherry and finished with rattle can lacquer. First time using lacquer. I like the finish but the fumes really got to me. Eric67, barb.j.enders, namunolie and 17 others 20 Quote
FrankEV Posted December 20, 2021 Report Posted December 20, 2021 I think the tray is absolutly fantastic. Beautiful!!! Would love to see some close up pic's and maybe give us some details like who's Pattern, wood thickness, blades used, etc. We love details. I use rattle can spray Lacquer on most of my panels. Yes, the fumes can get to you and actually give you a little buzz. Need to have good ventilation and wear a mask. But I do like the fine durable finish you can get with Lacquer and the fact it enhances the natural wood color and will not darken. And, it drys fast, alllowing ease of applying multiple coats with just very light sanding in between. Quote

John B Posted December 20, 2021 Report Posted December 20, 2021 WOW, You have done an outstanding job on the cutting and the finish looks blemish free. Absolutely beautiful. Quote
Loskoppie Posted December 20, 2021 Report Posted December 20, 2021 Beautiful. you must be proud of your work Quote
Oldmansbike Posted December 20, 2021 Author Report Posted December 20, 2021 Here are some more pics. I used Pegas #5 MG blades. It’s a Wildwood pattern I bought probably 20 years ago and the wood is 5/8 thick. The bottom photo is a full sized 3/4 walnut one I made years ago but it’s so heavy. I reduced the pattern size to 80% and reduced the thickness to 5/8 on the cherry one. It’s not near as heavy. Sorry about the pictures my photo skills are lacking. Dak0ta52 and FrankEV 1 1 Quote
Oldmansbike Posted December 20, 2021 Author Report Posted December 20, 2021 I was wrong on the pattern. It was from The Berry Basket instead of Wildwood. Quote
Denny Knappen Posted December 21, 2021 Report Posted December 21, 2021 Really great looking basket. If possible, I spray outside or in the garage, but drying inside still has odor. Quote
Charlie E Posted December 22, 2021 Report Posted December 22, 2021 That's beautiful. I love that the handles are hearts. The wood is gorgeous. Great piece! Quote
Oldmansbike Posted December 22, 2021 Author Report Posted December 22, 2021 Thanks for the wonderful comments and Merry Christmas to everyone. Here is something I did today. Walnut, oak, ash, cedar and cherry. Wife found the pattern online Quote
dgman Posted December 22, 2021 Report Posted December 22, 2021 Beautiful work Dale! As soon as I saw it, I knew it was a Berry Basket Pattern. You did a real nice job. My shop is my garage. I always have the garage door open when I spray lacquer.wearing a respirator is mandatory. Quote
